Coinbase Wallet - Free NFT for users

About a month ago, it was announced that support for Polygon NFTs was added to the Coinbase Wallet app. Of course, this is not really huge news so it was one of those things that... I knew it happened but I don't really care kind of things. I remember reading it and literally shrugging. They didn't really make it a big deal like big platforms normally do when they add a feature to their platform. It didn't really seem like something to write about to me because... I dunno. It just didn't.

Anyway I saw this Tweet that Coinbase Wallet users could claim a special edition NFT just for using the app. Now, while I am not the biggest fan of Coinbase as a whole, the Coinbase Wallet app holds a special place in my heart. I used it back when it was called Toshi, and it was really the first mobile app I ever used for interacting with Ethereum dapps. I never have linked it to my actual Coinbase account for what should be obvious reasons but I'll go ahead and say it. I don't want them tracking my shit and linking it to my identity. Duh.

It allows you to create or import existing wallets on any EVM chain like Polygon and BNB Chain. There's a built-in dapp browser that is honestly one of the best ones I've used other than Trust Wallet. It just seems to be smoother and when I need to log into dapps or approve transactions on my dektop... I can just scan the app and it works every single time. Sometimes that can be iffy on other wallets.

The most recent update to the Wallet app also updated the look and feel. Man it's fucking nice. I love how dark Dark Mode is. Everything looks more in line with the regular Coinbase and Coinbase Pro apps.

Now the wallet has support for NFTs from Ethereum and Polygon. You can also track your Ethereum native DeFi positions in a very limited way right in the app. Still doesn't even come close to how useful DeBank is though realistically, but it's getting better. If you're looking to really track your DeFi and NFT positions on a plethora of different chains, DeBank is the way. This will probably get more fleshed out as they just added Polygon NFTs.

So now that you can interact with NFTs on Polygon on the Wallet app, it's time to claim that free NFT I was talking about. It's supposedly a limited mint while supplies last for current Wallet users. All you have to do is go to the Coinbase Polygon website within the Wallet app or on desktop. Then you have to connect your wallet, verify that you are in fact human by completing a captch, and then claim your NFT.

This limited edition is exclusive to Wallet users, created and animated by Sajid Wajid Shaikh and Kashish Arora. Will this free NFT be worth anything at all? Probably not. It's just a collector's piece that can live in your wallet for years to come. Maybe in 5 years it will be worth something, maybe it will never be worth anything... Who cares? Go claim it and be happy. It's a cool little collectible item, just like those other free NFTs like the ones that Enjin gives away from time to time.

We're coming closing and closer to a time where digital collectibles are starting to become normal. Countless brands and companies are investing tons of money creating digital assets, metaverses, and all kinds of shit... Just chomping at the bit to get a taste of that metaverse money everyone is raving about.

Hell, Meta is dumping billions into their shitty metaverse, so that just shows how much attention this shit is going to get. NFTs haven't replaced physical collectibles yet, and I think we're very far from that... But that could very easily happen in the next 50-100 years.
