Project Blank Dev Update | New Features Added to Open Alpha for Hive's Everything App

Wow! In my opinion, this has been the best launch that LeoFinance has ever had. We are only 6 days in to Project Blank's Open Alpha - https://alpha.leofinance.io - being live and it has been truly incredible.

The launch has been super smooth. We've had essentially 0 down time and only about a dozen major bugs reported. We've already knocked out about 8/12 of those bugs and the newest build of the Alpha is now online.

Along with knocking out these bugs, we also released a few new features and made a lot of progress on the backend infrastructure which is going to lead into the features that are going live this week for all of you to test.

Features We Added

The newest features on Alpha are the updated Post button, the Account Switcher, Logout Button and some performance enhancements.

The Post button is just a quick visual thing we've been working on but will tie into a new feature we launch that will let you click that button and select from Post / Thread.

It's an ease of use thing. Soon™️ it will make it easier to fire off a quick thread or head to the publishing page.

The Account Switcher is something I'm really excited about. Having to manage multiple accounts can be a real pain. Other Hive UIs added account switchers that work fairly well but we went for a bit of a different implementation.

In my opinion, this is the easiest way to flip flop between accounts quickly and seamlessly.

It's also one of the most requested features from the old UI.

you can also see the logout button which wasn't live with the Open Alpha release but was added about a day after.

Along with these few features, we also added some performance enhancements. You guys have been crushing it on creating new threads and that means that we've had our work cut out for us in terms of scaling.

I see that one of the top positive feedback points we've been getting is amazement over how fast Threads are... Some of you have even said it's faster than Twitter!

Bugs We Fixed

We fixed a number of bugs. A few others are reported and we're currently working on a new build to fix them:

  1. The site identity logo wasn't showing (it showed the blank globe). That's been fixed
  2. Firefox users have been having some trouble voting, we've fixed some of these problems though a few people said it's still not working. We're currently diagnosing it and testing our own firefox instances
  3. Alpha UI links don't show previews on LeoFinance Threads or elsewhere - believe it or not, this is a LeoInfra issue. It has to do with the URL structure. We're working on a fix but it requires a big backend update to the way we index content. This will also make the links uniform with other Hive UIs (so you don't have to delete the /posts/view part in the URL). Hoping to have this live within the week
  4. Some updates to the Publishing page were made to fix buttons getting cut off, etc.
  5. Sometimes when posting a thread, it shows "6 hours ago" even though you just posted it, this has been fixed
  6. Sometimes comments don't go through on brave browser, we've fixed this
  7. Some users have reported not being able to reply through the notifications page, we've fixed this
  8. Explore page crashed and kicked an application error back to users, we quickly found and fixed the issue
  9. "Posted Using LeoFinance Alpha" wasn't written properly. We fixed this

Next Up on Open Alpha

As promised, we'll be releasing new features for everyone to test as we continue to gain feedback and fix bugs. You can see that we've fixed the majority of bugs that have been reported. A few are outstanding and require some infra updates so it will take a bit more time to get them ironed out.

Your feedback is so incredibly important! If you want the new features, make sure to send your feedback in through bug report tickets on discord! This helps us fix old bugs and move on to new features quicker.

The next major features we're rolling out are:

  1. Bookmarks - bookmark a post and be able to read it later (you can already see the menu item. That link will be enabled soon ™️
  2. Shortcuts - a Shortcut menu will appear in the bottom left (underneath the main menu).. you'll be able to add authors and pages / feeds to this Shortcuts menu. Imagine that you love @taskmaster4450's posts... You'll be able to simply add that to your shortcuts menu and be able to visit his profile page with the click of a button
  3. Polls - Ooo bet you didn't see that one coming. Decentralized voting on polls through Threads is going to be enabled. We think this is going to lead to some MASSIVE engagement on Threads. This is one of my favorite features that we're rolling out ... next? You'll have to give that feedback to see ;)

So far the new UI is crushing it. We've seen Threads activity literally 5x since the start of 2023. We've also seen a lot of new users come in to both the UI and to being LEO stakeholders.

@leogrowth posted recently about how successful our recent LPUD was. Things are shaping up both for the LEO token and for the new UI. I can't even explain how excited the team is. We're hitting a stride!
