Seed funding is money that is put up by angel investors who are willing to invest in risky venture in hopes of getting a much larger return.

A seed round is funding that comes in to cover the basic operations of the business for a certain period of time. It is common for there to be a number of seed rounds, denoted as A, B, and C. Since the companies are not publicly traded, each new round creates a new valuation for the entity.
