DCROPS and the Mystery Seed: Buy or Skip?

**Dcrops is a farming game built and developed on the Hive blockchain. The points of strength of Dcrops in my opinion are two:

  • it is an extremely simple game and requires very little time to play. I, for example, spend a total of 15 minutes per season (every 15 days) harvesting crops and selling crops for Shares points.

  • Even though Dcrops is not a free game the minimum initial investment is very low. For example in the current season (winter) to buy 1 NFT Land of common type (Average Farmland) and 1 NFT Seed of common type (Radish) you need to spend only 1.834 HIVE = 1.58$**.

Obviously, the minimum investment to start playing the game is not also the optimal minimum investment.

After this brief introduction about Dcrops I can move on to the main topic of my post today which is an evaluation of the Booster Mystery Seed item.

Booster Mystery Seed: Buy or Skip?

I've often received requests for advice regarding the game of Dcrops in the comments to my posts on Dcrops or on Discord, and today I want to answer a question I received some time ago which is as follows:

Is it convenient to buy Mystery Seed from the Shop section of Dcrops?

To answer this question it is necessary to do some calculations but first let me show you what Boosters are and what they are used for.

**Boosters are consumable elements in the game of Dcrops because they can only be used once. Boosters come in three types:

  • Ferti-Plus
  • Mystery Seed
  • Speed-Gro**

The Booster Ferti-Plus affects a Land card and allows you to double the probability of getting higher rarity crops (2 and 3 stars) at harvest time.

The Booster Speed-Gro applies to a specific plot of a Land and allows you to reduce the production time of a NFT of Seed type by a variable reduction: from 10% to 50%.

The **Booster Mystery Seed can be used in a plot of a Land and is transformed into a Seed-type NFT. The resulting NFT will be:

  • Of Common type in 75% of cases

  • Rare in 20% of cases

  • Epic type in 4.2% of cases

  • Legendary in 0.8%** of cases.

There are two ways to get a **Mystery Seed Booster:

  • completion of quests (no-cost way).

  • purchase** from the SHOP section of Dcrops

To understand whether buying a Booster is convenient or not it is necessary to give a value to the Booster before buying it.

In particular, to give a value to a Mystery Seed you need to know the following values:

  • **value of 1 Share point
  • value of 1 token Dcrops**.

The final step is to calculate the value of the advantage obtained by using a Booster.

The Mystery Seed has a purchase cost of 40 CROP tokens.

Today, April 11, 2022, the value of **1 CROP token is:

  • 0.00281 HIVE = $0.00243 (Highest Bid).

  • 0.00308999 HIVE = $0.002670 (Lowest Ask)**

In the following image you can see the Candlestick chart of the CROP tokens that I took from TribalDex (https://tribaldex.com/trade/CROP)

Based on the current values of CROP tokens, buying a Booster Mystery Seed costs 40 CROP = 0.1235 HIVE = $0.1068.

Let's start by analyzing the most probable use case (75%). Using a Mystery Seed will allow you to get 3 out of 4 times an NFT of type common seed.

In the current season of Dcrops there are only two common Seed type cards that can be used:

  • **Peas
  • Radish**

As you can see from the data in the table below:

  • a **Peas NFT can be used only once during a single season and produces a minimum of 15 Shares points

  • a Radish NFT can be used only once during a single season and produces a minimum of 13 Shares**.

Consider the case where the Mystery Seed turns into an NFT Peas which has a higher Shares point production (15) than the NFT Radish (13). In the luckiest case (highly improbable) an NFT Peas will produce a total of 24 Shares points:

  • 1 crop of 3-star quality: points Shares 9
  • 1 quality crop 2 stars: Shares 6 points
  • 3 quality crops 1 star: total Shares points 9 (3 shares X crop)

The question to answer now is the following:

24 Shares points are worth 40 CROP?.

To answer I must first calculate the value of a point Shares and to do so I must consider and analyze the reward that I have obtained in the season just ended. As you can see from the data in the following image in the previous season I scored a total of 527 Shares points which allowed me to get 382,061 CROP tokens from my placement in the seasonal leaderboard.

If I do the proportion 1:X=527:382.061 I can calculate the dollar and HIVE value of 1 point Shares which is as follows:

1 point Shares = 0.725 CROP = 0.0020 HIVE = $0.0018.

This means that if I buy and use a Mystery Seed Booster and I am lucky in finding a 3 star crop and 1 2 star crop, 3 times out of 4 I will spend 40 CROP and get 19,574 CROP.

My previous calculation is very optimistic because **if I plant 1 NFT of type Peas producing 5 crops each crop will have:

  • 90% of being of 1 star
  • 9% of being 2 stars
  • 1% of being 3 stars**.

This means that it is much more probable that a Mystery Seed that turns into an NFT Peas will produce:

  • **4 crops of 1 star

  • 1 crop of 2 stars for a total of 18 points Shares** and in this case buying a Mystery Seed will have produced a bigger loss.

Let's see now the luckiest case:

  • I use a Mystery Seed and get a legendary NFT (0.8% probability) such as a Bell Pepper NFT that can be planted in the current season.

As you can see from the data in the table below an NFT Bell Pepper will produce in the worst case 140 Shares points (all 1 star crops).

In this case I will get at least 140 Shares points = 101.496 CROP.

I will spend 40 CROP to get at least 101.49 CROP.

Great right? But this case will happen less than 1 time out of 100 = 0.8%

Conclusion

In any farming game doing calculations and evaluations before making a purchase is always of paramount importance and I believe I have demonstrated this through the calculations and evaluations I have shared in this post.

In summary buying a Mystery Seed Booster is in my opinion a **wrong choice because in the current season:

  • 75% of the time I would get a common seed (most probable case production 13 - 15 point shares) = very probable loss**

  • 20 % of the times I would get a rare seed = (most probable case production 24 points shares) = very probable loss

  • 4.2% of the time I would get an epic seed = (most likely case production 70 points shares) = small profit

  • 0.8% of the time I would get a legendary seed = (most probable case production 140 points shares) = great profit

The Mystery Seed Booster is a very useful item in the game of Dcrops but the best way to try to get it is for free by completing Quests.

**Dcrops è un gioco di farming costruito e sviluppato sulla blockchain di Hive. I punti di forza di Dcrops secondo me sono due:

  • è un gioco estremamente semplice e richiede davvero poco tempo da dedicarci. Io ad esempio impiego un totale di 15 minuti a stagione (ogni 15 giorni) per effettuare i raccolti e per vendere i prodotti agricoli in cambio di punti Shares.

  • anche se Dcrops non è un gioco gratuito l'investimento minimo iniziale è molto basso. Ad esempio nella stagione in corso (inverno) per acquistare 1 NFT Land di tipo comune (Average Farmland) e 1 NFT Seed di tipo comune (Radish) è necessario spendere solo 1.834 HIVE = 1.58$**.

Ovviamente l'investimento minimo per iniziare a giocare non è dettp che sia anche l'investimento minimo ottimale.

Dopo questa breve introduzione su Dcrops posso passare all'argomento principale del mio post odierno che è una valutazione della carta Booster Mystery Seed.

Boosters Mystery Seed: Comprare o Passare?

Ho ricevuto spesso richieste di consigli nei commenti ai miei post su Dcrops oppure su Discord e oggi voglio rispondere ad una domanda che ho ricevuto tempo fa e che è la seguente:

Conviene acquistare i Mystery Seed dalla sezione Shop di Dcrops?

Per rispondere a questa domanda è necessario fare un pò di calcoli ma prima ti mostro cosa sono e a cosa servono gli elementi Boosters.

I **Boosters sono elementi consumabili nel gioco di Dcrops perchè possono essere utilizzati una volta sola. I Boosters sono di tre tipi:

  • Ferti-Plus
  • Mystery Seed
  • Speed-Gro**

Il Booster Ferti-Plus ha effetto su una carta Land e permette di raddoppiare la probabilità di ottenere crops di rarità maggiore (2 e 3 stelle) al momento del raccolto.

Il Booster Speed-Gro si applica ad uno specifico plot di una Land e permette di ridurre il tempo di produzione di un NFT di tipo Seme con una riduzione variabile: dal 10% al 50%.

Il **Booster Mystery Seed può essere utilizzato in un plot di una Land e si trasforma in un NFT di tipo Seme. L'NFT risultante sarà:

  • di tipo Comune nel 75% dei casi

  • di tipo Raro nel 20% dei casi

  • di tipo Epico nel 4.2% dei casi

  • di tipo Leggendario nello 0.8%** dei casi.

Ci sono due modi per ottenere un Booster **Mystery Seed:

  • completamento delle quests (modo senza costi)

  • acquisto** dalla sezione SHOP di Dcrops

Per capire se acquistare un Booster è conveniente o meno è necessario dare un valore al Booster prima di comprarlo.

In particolare per dare un valore ad un Mystery Seed è necessario conoscere i seguenti valori:

  • **valore di 1 punto Share
  • valore di 1 token Dcrops**

Il passo finale è calcolare il valore del vantaggio ottenibile dall'utilizzo di un Booster.

Il Mystery Seed ha un costo di acquisto di 40 token CROP.

Oggi 11 aprile 2022 il valore di **1 token CROP è di:

  • 0.00281 HIVE = 0.00243$ (Highest Bid)

  • 0.00308999 HIVE = 0.002670$ (Lowest Ask)**

In base ai valori attuali dei token CROP comprare un Booster Mystery Seed ha un costo di 40 CROP = 0.1235 HIVE = 0.1068$

Partiamo dall'analisi del caso più probabile (75%). Utilizzare un Mystery Seed permetterà di ottenere 3 volte su 4 un NFT di tipo seme comune.

Nella stagione in corso di Dcrops sono solo due le carte comuni di tipo Seme utilizzabili:

  • **Peas
  • Radish**

Come puoi vedere dai dati presenti nella tabella seguente:

  • un NFT **Peas può essere utilizzato una sola volta durante una singola stagione e produce un minimo di 15 punti Shares

  • un NFT Radish può essere utilizzato una sola volta durante una singola stagione e produce un minimo di 13 punti Shares**

Consideriamo il caso in cui il Mystery Seed si trasforma in un NFT Peas che ha una produzione di punti Shares maggiore (15) rispetto all'NFT Radish. Nel caso più fortunato (altamente improbabile) un NFT Peas produrrà in totale 24 punti Shares:

  • 1 crop di qualità 3 stelle: punti Shares 9
  • 1 crop di qualità 2 stelle: punti Shares 6
  • 3 crop di qualità 1 stella: punti Shares totali 9 (3 shares X crop)

La domanda a cui rispondere adesso è la seguente:

24 punti Shares valgono 40 CROP?

Per rispondere devo prima calcolare il valore di un punto Shares e per farlo devo considerare e analizzare la ricompensa che ho ottenuto nella stagione appena conclusa. Come puoi vedere dai dati nell'immagine seguente nella stagione precedente ho totalizzato un totale di 527 punti Shares che mi hanno permesso di ottenere 382.061 token CROP dal mio piazzamento nella classifica stagionale (Leaderboard).

Se faccio la proporzione 1:X=527:382.061 posso calcolare il valore in dollari e in HIVE di 1 punto Shares che è il seguente:

1 punto Shares = 0.725 CROP = 0.0020 HIVE = 0.0018$.

Questo vuol dire che se compro e utilizzo un Booster Mystery Seed e sono fortunato nel trovare un crop di 3 stelle e 1 di 2 stelle, 3 volte su 4 spenderò 40 CROP e otterrò 19.574 CROP.

Il mio calcolo precedente è molto ottimistico perchè **se pianto 1 NFT di tipo Peas che produce 5 crop ogni crop avrà:

  • il 90% di essere di 1 stella
  • il 9% di essere di 2 stelle
  • l'1% di essere di 3 stelle**

Questo vuol dire che con molta più probabilità un Mystery Seed che si trasforma in un NFT Peas produrrà:

  • **4 crop di 1 stella

  • 1 crop di 2 stelle per un totale di 18 punti Shares** e in questo caso comprare un Mystery Seed avrà prodotto una perdita maggiore

Vediamo adesso il caso più fortunato:

  • Utilizzo un Mystery Seed e ottengo un NFT leggendario (0.8% di probabilità) come ad esempio un NFT Bell Pepper piantabile nella stagione in corso.

Come puoi vedere dai dati presenti nella tabella seguente un NFT Bell Pepper mi produrrà nel caso peggiore 140 punti Shares (tutti crops di 1 stella).

In questo caso otterrò come minimo 140 punti Shares = 101.496 CROP

Spenderò 40 CROP per ottenerne come minimo 101.49 CROP

Ottimo vero? Ma questo caso succederà meno di 1 volta su 100 = 0.8%

Conclusione

In qualsiasi gioco di farming fare calcoli e valutazioni prima di effettuare un acquisto è sempre di fondamentale importanza e credo di averlo dimostrato tramite i calcoli e le valutazioni che ho condiviso in questo post.

In sintesi acquistare un Booster Mystery Seed è secondo me una **scelta sbagliata perchè nella stagione in corso:

  • il 75% delle volte otterrei un seme comune (produzione caso più probabile 13 - 15 punti shares) = perdita molto probabile**

  • il 20% delle volte otterrei un seme raro = (produzione caso più probabile 24 punti shares) = perdita molto probabile

  • il 4.2% delle volte otterrei un seme epico = (produzione caso più probabile 70 punti shares) = piccolo profitto

  • lo 0.8% delle volte otterrei un seme leggendario = (produzione caso più probabile 140 punti shares) = ottimo profitto

Il Booster Mystery Seed è un elemento molto utile nel gioco di Dcrops ma il modo migliore per cercare di ottenerlo è quello gratuito completando le Quests.
