Happy Birthday Hive: 3 Years of Continuous Development and Continuous Evolution Started by a Hostile Take-over!
Today is March 20, 2023 and it is the third anniversary of Hive. On March 20, 2020 Hive was born from a Hard Fork of another blockchain: Steem.
Today I have gone back in time in my Hive blog to that date and I want to share some memories about how Hive was born and I also want to share some of my thoughts about how Hive has changed from three years ago also because many hivers I interact with today arrived on Hive after March 20, 2020 and do not know the story of Hive's birth.
Hive was born from the desire for decentralization of a community that fought united against an attempt to centralize the Steem blockchain into something unilaterally manipulable like Facebook or Twitter.
On March 3, 2020, Steem's 20 witnesses were replaced by fake witnesses all created by Justin Sun who had purchased all the assets of Steemit Inc. and wanted to make all the decisions about Steem's blockchain himself.
I had a small amount of voting power at the time (about 2000 SP) but I participated in my own small way in this battle through the publication of posts and through my voting for the real witnesses.

Most of the community on Steem came together and reversed the situation but only for a short time and because of this, 17 days after the attack Hive was born, a blockchain initially similar to Steem but built to be a true decentralized project much more secure in case of future attempts to attack decentralization.
Hive was then born on March 20, 2020, and all major communities and most developers chose to abandon Steem and move only to Hive.
Three years later, the two blockchains that started from more or less the same development point have taken two completely different paths and have achieved markedly different development progress.
Today Steem is a centralized blockchain that can be identified as a blogging platform exactly as it was three years ago because little or nothing has changed. On March 20, 2020, the social part was an important part of Hive if not the main part. Today Hive has changed a lot since then and the social part is only a small part of Hive.
Today Hive is a constantly developing and evolving ecosystem of sites, apps and communities and is completely decentralized.
In the year 2020 on Steem, actions were taken completely contrary to the principle of decentralization:
- Splinterlands posts were obscured from the trending page when Splinterlands decided to move to Hive.
- All wallet tokens were removed from accounts that opposed J.Sun's attempt at centralization and created Hive
I love the principle of decentralization and my choice to abandon Steem to devote my free time to Hive was the most natural choice for me.
I used all my STEEMs to buy HIVE and to increase my weight on Hive and to invest in Hive-based games including Splinterlands.
Those STEEMs that were worth a few dollars helped create my Splinterlands card collection that is now worth more than $10k.
In 3 years Hive has begun a process of continuous development and improvement while Steem has practically stopped at the development level.
The website https://hiveprojects.io/ lists 174 apps, sites and tools built on Hive.
But there are many more projects because not all projects are listed and many projects are in development.
Although the social part of Hive is no longer the main part of Hive relative to the number of transactions there are many applications for posting content such as:
- Twitter style applications such as @leofinance's Threads or DBuzz
- Instagram style applications such as Liketu
Those who want to publish contents on Hive can choose from many front-ends that are constantly being improved such as:

On Hive it is possible to create second-level tokens and there are many dexes to manage second-level tokens such as:
There are so many playable games on Hive and so many game projects in development. I am an active player on 11 Hive-based games:

Today out of curiosity I went to see the values of the HIVE and STEEM tokens at https://www.coingecko.com/. The HIVE token was listed as of March 23, 2020, so I started from this date to compare the difference in value over the time interval: March 23, 2020 - today March 20, 2023.
On **March 23, 2020:

HIVE was worth $0.173179.

Today **March 20, 2023:

In a time interval of almost three years:

**HIVE has increased its value by +153% since March 23, 2020

STEEM has increased its value by +11.16%** compared to March 23, 2020
Those who chose to invest in HIVE tokens on March 23, 2020 today got a value of +153%. Those who chose to do Power Up and converted HIVE tokens into Hive Power (HP) also got an APR of +8%-10% per year!
The values I showed above show how important development is in blockchain project compared to a similar project where development was almost zero!
Today I gladly participated in the initiative HivePowerBday Initiative - 100K HP Delegations in Prizes and power up my liquid HIVEs.
Although I can't participate in the prize drawing because I have an HP over 33k and one of the requirements of the initiative is to have an HP under 25K having discovered Hive three years ago is a great prize for me!
Three years ago I chose Hive, I chose decentralization and I am really glad I made that choice!

If you are not a Hive user and don't know the world of blockchains you have two options:
You can continue to be a simple number, a simple source of data and wealth for centralized projects like Facebook & Co. without receiving anything or almost anything in return.

Oggi è il 20 marzo 2023 ed è il terzo anniversario di Hive. Il 20 marzo 2020 è nata Hive da un Hard Fork di un'altra blockchain che si chiama Steem.
Oggi sono andato indietro nel tempo nel mio Hive blog fino a quella data e voglio condividere alcuni ricordi su come è nata e voglio condividere anche alcune mie considerazioni su come è cambiata Hive rispetto a tre anni fa anche perchè molti hivers con cui interagisco oggi sono arrivati su Hive dopo il 20 marzo 2020 e non conoscono la storia della nascita di Hive.
Hive è nata dalla voglia di decentralizzazione di una comunità che ha combattuto unita contro un tentativo di centralizzare la blockchain Steem per trasformarla in qualcosa di manipolabile unilateralmente come Facebook o Twitter.
Steem era ed è tutt'ora principalmente una piattaforma di blogging i cui contenuti (post e commenti) vengono memorizzati su una blockchain che però ha oggi poco a che fare con il principio di decentralizzazione.
Il 3 marzo 2020 i 20 testimoni di Steem sono stati sostituiti da finti testimoni tutti creati da Justin Sun che aveva acquistato tutti gli assets di Steemit Inc. e voleva prendere da solo tutte le decisioni sulla blockchain di Steem.
Io all'epoca avevo un piccolo potere di voto (circa 2000 SP) ma ho partecipato nel mio piccolo a questa battaglia tramite la pubblicazione di posts e tramite il mio voto ai veri testimoni.

La maggior parte della comunità su Steem si è unita e ha ribaltato la situazione ma solo per poco tempo e per questo motivo, dopo 17 giorni dall'attacco è nata Hive, una blockchain inizialmente simile a Steem ma costruita per essere un vero progetto decentralizzato molto più sicuro nel caso di futuri tentativi di attacco alla decentralizzazione.
Il 20 marzo 2020 è quindi nata Hive, tutte le comunità più importanti e la maggior parte degli sviluppatori hanno scelto di abbandonare Steem per passare unicamente ad Hive.
A distanza di tre anni le due blockchains che sono partite più o meno da uno stesso punto di sviluppo hanno preso due strade completamente diverse e hanno raggiunto progressi di sviluppo decisamente diversi.
Oggi Steem è una blockchain centralizzata che può essere identificata come una piattaforma di blogging esattamente come tre anni fa perchè poco o nulla è cambiato. Il 20 marzo 2020 la parte social era una parte importante di Hive se non la principale. Oggi Hive è cambiata molto da allora e la parte social è solo una piccola parte di Hive.
Oggi Hive è un ecosistema di siti, apps e comunità in continuo sviluppo e in continua evoluzione ed è completamente decentralizzata.
Nell'anno 2020 su Steem sono state prese azioni completamente contrarie al principio di decentralizzazione:
- I post di Splinterlands sono stati oscurati dalla trending page quando Splinterlands ha deciso di trasferirsi su Hive.
- Sono stati tolti tutti i tokens dai wallet dagli accounts che hanno contrastato il tentativo di centralizzazione di J.Sun e hanno creato Hive
Io amo il principio di decentralizzazione e la mia scelta di abbandonare Steem per dedicare il mio tempo libero ad Hive è stata la più naturale possibile.
Ho usato tutti i miei STEEM per acquistare HIVE e per aumentare il mio peso su Hive e per investire nei giochi Hive based tra cui Splinterlands.
Quegli STEEM che valevano pochi dollari hanno contribuito a creare la mia collezione di carte di Splinterlands che oggi vale più di 10k $.
In 3 anni Hive ha iniziato un processo di sviluppo e di miglioramento continuo mentre Steem si è praticamente fermata.
Il sito https://hiveprojects.io/ lista 174 apps, sites and tools costruiti su Hive.
Ma i progetti sono molti di più perchè non sono listati tutti i progetti e molti progetti sono in fase di sviluppo.
Anche se la parte social di Hive non è più la parte principale di Hive in rapporto al numero di transazioni su Hive ci sono tante applicazioni per pubblicare contenuti come ad esempio:
- le applicazioni Twitter style come i Threads di @leofinance o i post di @dbuzz
- le applicazioni Instagram style come Liketu
Chi vuole pubblicare contenuti su Hive può scegliere tra tanti front-ends che sono in continuo miglioramento come:
Chi vuole creare, vendere o acquistare NFTs può farlo da:
Su Hive è possibile creare token di secondo livello e ci sono tanti dex per gestire i token di secondo livello come ad esempio:
Su Hive ci sono tanti giochi giocabili e tanti sono i progetti di giochi in fase di sviluppo. Io sono un giocatore attivo su 11 giochi Hive-based:
E ho anche investito in alcuni progetti che non sono ancora giocabili perchè in fase di sviluppo.
Su Hive ci sono anche le Diesel Pools perchè Hive ha anche un lato defi e aggiungere o togliere liquidità non ha costi in tokens come su altre blockchain:
Su Hive ci sono tante apps che facilitano l'accesso ad Hive come Hive Keychain e ci sono tante apps per monitorare la propria attività come ad esempio:
Oggi per curiosità sono andato a vedere i valori dei token HIVE e STEEM su https://www.coingecko.com/. Il token HIVE è stato quotato a partire dal 23 marzo 2020 e per questo motivo sono partito da questa data per fare il confronto della differenza di valore nell'intervallo di tempo: 23 marzo 2020 - oggi 20 marzo 2023.

Chi ha scelto di investire in token HIVE il 23 marzo 2020 oggi ha ottenuto un valore del +153%. Chi ha scelto di fare Power Up e ha convertito i token HIVE in Hive Power (HP) ha ottenuto anche un APR del +8%-10% all'anno!
I valori che ho mostrato sopra mostrano quanto è importante lo sviluppo in progetto blockchain rispetto ad un progetto simile in cui lo sviluppo è stato quasi nullo!
Oggi ho partecipato con piacere all'iniziativa HivePowerBday Initiative - 100K HP Delegations in Prizes e ho fatto il power up dei miei HIVE liquidi.
Anche se non posso partecipare all'estrazione dei premi perchè ho un HP superiore a 33k e uno dei requisiti dell'iniziativa è quello di avere un HP inferiore a 25K aver scoperto Hive tre anni fa è per me un grande premio!
Tre anni fa ho scelto Hive, ho scelto la decentralizzazione e sono contento di aver fatto questa scelta!

Se non sei un utente di Hive e non conosci il mondo delle blockchains hai due possibilità:
Puoi continuare ad essere un semplice numero, una semplice fonte di dati e ricchezza per progetti centralizzati come Facebook & Co. senza ricevere nulla o quasi nulla in cambio.
Puoi scegliere di essere libero, puoi scegliere di avere la piena proprietà dei tuoi dati e dei tuoi contenuti e puoi iniziare la tua avventura su Hive.
Ciò che rende la blockchain di Hive più unica che rara sono le sue peculiarità:
