Modern Format and Wild Format Are Live!

Today, July 14, 2022, the subdivision of ranked battles into two formats was introduced: Modern Format and Wild Format.

I immediately wanted to test this change and played my first battles in both formats.

Switching between the screens of the two formats is quick and easy thanks to the two selection buttons MODERN and WILD located at the top within the Battles section of the Splinterlands site.

I view this change very positively because it will allow new players and players who have entered Splinterlands starting with the release of the Untamed edition to have a lower competitive disadvantage in Modern Format competitions (Modern Format Ranked Battles and Modern Format Leaderboards) than older players.

Now with the introduction of the Modern and Wild formats there are:

  • **2 types of Ranked Battles to choose from
  • 2 separate leaderboards in which to compete and then there are two possible prizes to be won for each player
  • 2 separate rating scores
  • 2 different Collection Power requirements for access to the leagues of the two formats
  • 2 DEC Reward Pools**

The **elements in common between Modern Format and Wild Format are:

  • A single Energy Capture Rate
  • The Daily Focus Missions and related rewards
  • The Seasonal Mission and its related rewards**.

In my previous post I had published a diagram to show graphically and compactly the changes and effects of the Ranked Battles split between Modern Format and Wild Format. Today I realized that I had made a mistake because I was convinced that there would also be a split of Focus and Seasonal Missions which are instead a common element between the two formats and in the following image you can see the corrected diagram.

Modern Format or Wild Format?

If there had been two separate Daily Focuses and two separate seasonal rewards for the two formats, becoming competitive in both formats would have been a must rather than a possible choice. With the sharing of the ECR and daily and seasonal quests, the choice of which format to play will be obligatory for most players but it will at the same time be an easy choice to make because it will be driven mainly by the rating score and consequently by the win rate because the factor that has the most weight in the formula for calculating the RShares points that are the basis for calculating Season Points and Focus Points is precisely the Rating score.

This season will be a test season for me and I will initially play in both formats as long as the gap in rating points between the two formats is short. When the gap in rating points between the two formats will be evident I will only play the battles in the format where I can get a higher rating score.

It will be interesting to see the effect of introducing the two formats on the Leaderboards and it will be interesting to know the number of players who will choose one format over another. The market prices of the cards in the Chaos Legion collection are on average lower than the market prices of the previous collections, and therefore players who have recently registered and new players will most likely choose the new format and therefore theoretically there should be more players and more competition in the new format. If so many players choose to play only in the new format playing in the wild format could be advantageous for the old players because the DEC reward pool will be divided among fewer battles won and thus among fewer players and also the leaderboard would have fewer players competing for the reward positions.

SPS, DEC and Chaos Legion Packs

In today's post I want to share some my personal thoughts on SPS tokens, DEC tokens and Chaos Legion card packs.

One of the most beautiful aspects of Splinterlands is that there are so many assets and consequently the possible investment strategies can be many.

In a few days the airdrop of Splintershards (SPS) tokens, the governance tokens of Splinterlands, will end.

When the SPS airdrop will be over there will remain the option of staking the SPS tokens that currently guarantee a APR of 32.71% (SPS+VOUCHER).

With the end of airdrop will end the easiest way to accumulate SPS tokens. The Airdrop of SPS tokens has been allocated 13% of the total distribution which will be 3 billion SPS tokens.

I have so far accumulated 38337 SPS tokens and my goal is to reach an amount of at least 50000 SPS tokens in staking.

When the airdrop is over there will be only one other way, besides staking, to obtain SPS tokens and that will be to play to Earn (Play to Earn).

The amount of SPS tokens that will be allocated to the Play to Earn mode will be 30% = 9000000 SPS and as communicated recently by Splinterlands in this post 7.5 million SPS per month will be distributed as in-game rewards.

There is a fixed supply of 7.5M SPS tokens per month allocated to ranked battle rewards, and this supply will be portioned out between ranked battle wins and focus/season chests, with a separate pool for each chest tier.

Splinterlands' plan is to replace the current DEC token rewards for battle wins and as possible content in chests with SPS tokens.

The plan is that all of the current DEC rewards for ranked battles -- including tokens awarded for ranked battle wins and in focus/season reward chests -- will be replaced with SPS tokens. This way there will no longer be a huge supply of DEC tokens entering the market from ranked battle rewards which will help stabilize the price around the value at which we accept them in the shop.

So with the end of the airdrop of SPS tokens, the DEC tokens that had a lot of weight in the calculation of the airdrop score will lose an important use case that in the short term could lead to a further decrease in market value.

Today, July 14, 2022, the value of 1 DEC token is $0.575

When DEC tokens will be replaced by SPS tokens in the game rewards, their value may increase again because the amount distributed will decrease compared to today.

Several investment strategies are possible in this scenario.

A possible short-term strategy could be to sell DEC tokens a few days before the end of the airdrop of SPS tokens, wait for the probable loss in value due to the loss of the use case related to the airdrop and then buy them back thus obtaining more DEC tokens whose value could then go back to growing when DEC tokens are replaced by SPS tokens in the Ranked Battles rewards.

A possible medium-term strategy could instead be to sell the DEC tokens now and buy the SPS tokens, which have a very low value at present because the SPS tokens are, of all Splinterlands assets, the tokens that will have the greatest increase in use cases in the future.

In addition if the value of DEC tokens were to fall below $0.5 buying Chaos Legion packs from the Shop section could be a very profitable operation in the future. In fact, if this condition occurs, a Chaos Legion pack could be purchased at a cost of 4000 DEC = 2$ instead of the cost of 4$ using credits as the payment method.

The difference between estimated value and purchase cost would most likely be a positive value even in the case of purchasing a single Chaos Legion pack.

In case this condition will occur I will use the HBD tokens in my wallet to buy Chaos Legion packs ;)

Of course, mine are just personal thoughts, evaluations and considerations that I wanted to share in this post and are not financial advice.

Trying to predict the future value of Splinterlands assets and having the ability to choose between different investment strategies are just two of the many beautiful aspects of Splinterlands.

In conclusion, I want to share the content of my latest end-of-season reward.

Screenshot from: https://splintershare.info/

In the last season, I started playing late because I returned from a vacation with my family on the Fourth of July, so I obtained and opened fewer chests than in the previous season.

In the two Chaos Legion packs I received and opened, I found cards with a market value of $6.82.

The total value of my end-of-season reward was $14.36.

I could have been luckier but I am still happy with the reward I received because playing Splinterlands is a fun activity that I enjoy doing and for that simple reason any reward is always a good reward ;)

Thank you for reading my post I hope you liked it and thank you for giving me your time

Splinterlands = Play 2 Earn!

Are you not a Splinterlands player?

Splinterlands is a beautiful game and it has proved to be a very good investment for me (at least until now) and if you regularly participate to the weekly contests organized by the @splinterlands account you will recover the registration cost (10$) in a short time.

If you decide to register, you can do it from this link:

Any game that involves the purchase of cards and tokens is never a simple game but it is also an investment and should be considered as such.
I am not a financial consultant and if you decide to invest in the game of Splinterlands you do it for your own choice, after having made your personal evaluations and considered all possible risk factors.

**My advice is to always invest only what you can afford to lose with a light heart!

HIVE ON and Splinterlands ON!

Modern Format o Wild Format?

SPS, DEC e Chaos Legion Packs

There is a fixed supply of 7.5M SPS tokens per month allocated to ranked battle rewards, and this supply will be portioned out between ranked battle wins and focus/season chests, with a separate pool for each chest tier.

The plan is that all of the current DEC rewards for ranked battles - including tokens awarded for ranked battle wins and in focus/season reward chests - will be replaced with SPS tokens. This way there will no longer be a huge supply of DEC tokens entering the market from ranked battle rewards which will help stabilize the price around the value at which we accept them in the shop.

Screenshot from: https://splintershare.info/

Splinterlands = Play 2 Earn!
