A good analogy because using TikTok on a daily basis is like licking a toilet seat, but for your mind.

Ever since ive been using TikTok to find influencers for Hive, I feel like I developed a case of social media induced PTSD.
Like with every platform there are good and bad creators but I feel that the most popular content on TikTok is the most braindead shit you can imagine.

At times I cover my face with how cringy some of this stuff is. Sometimes I laugh my ass off.
But it never seems to be because it was the intent of the video to get that kind of reaction from me.

Slutty talentless teens mouthing popular songs,

Weird cringy dancing for Horny teens.

It amazes me that the attention span of current social media users has shortened so much. Their need for quality content deteriorated. Because it did. But there is something very smart about TikTok and their algo. Very smart because they recognized this phenomena.

TikTok is hands-off. As hands off as it can be. You literally do nothing. You dont have to click, you dont have to choose, the shortest form of content is encouraged and you literally have to do NOTHING to consume content. It is fed to you TikTok is the fast food of social media.

Hive on the other hand, is very niche with its archaic blogging focus dated circa 1998, and absurdly complex signup system, while this is what is getting the attention right now. The amount of reach you get on TikTok compared to youtube for example, in a fraction of time invested is mind boggling.

And this is the point im continuing to make. Ofc, we will never compete with TikTok nor should we aim to, but there are important lessons that platforms like that can teach us.

If you want to achieve mass adoption, or any decent level of adoption, there is not a single thing more important than the absolute simplification when it comes to the user experience.
