My Mene 24K gold rings arrived today! // Customs crooks

It took aprox. 4 months but the rings are finally here.

Its been a long road for them. Since Mene doesnt ship to Croatia first i sent the rings to Greece to @trumpman and he was supposed to send them to Croatia (in case he didnt decide to pocket them. He does like his gold and silver) but the fuckers at customs wanted to charge me 40% import tax, approx.. 1000 USD! I said no to that. They have some hidden fees no one mentions and these specific brokers are the only ones in Greece that deal with FedEx packages. I called multiple airports to see who can take the package. I even called FEDEX Greece to see if some other broker can do it. Nope. Only these guys can process FEDEX. So these fuckers charge whatever they want. So heed the warning:๐Ÿ˜…

DO NOT SEND ANYTHING OF VALUE TO GREECE VIA FEDEX AND AVOID ORBIT COURIERS S.A.!

Look at these reviews.
Their Google review rating is 1.7/5 on 400 reviews which shows how horrible they are.
So we sent the rings back to USA and I found someone to pick them up in Germany.
In the end I paid only around half what the Greek customs office was asking, around 500 USD import tax which is how much I expected to pay.

Was it worth it waiting so long for them, going through all the crap, just to avoid buying locally ... Well... lets see:

THE BAD:

  • Theres a few imperfections on the rings. Some notches that shouldnt be there. And its not from wearing since they came today.

  • Theyre not completely round. When I roll the flat ring it wobbles and falls over.

  • Theyre slightly wider or narrow in some parts.

  • They dont weigh as much as they should. I paid for 28.68 grams of gold in both rings. I got around 26 grams. $150 USD worth of gold less.

THE GOOD:

  • Theres really nothing quite like 24K gold ... I compared the rings to a 14K ring we had at hand and the 14K ring next to the 24K ring looks like its bleached.

  • Theyre pure gold. They will always retain their inherent value.

  • The biggest positive about the MENE rings is the price. Even with the import tax, for the gold content of these rings I paid almost 50% less then what I would have paid if I went for the next best option in Croatia and the rings wouldnt be 24K.

Should you buy jewelry from MENE?

I would say, go for it. Even with the imperfections, average customer service, waiting time, its still by far the best option out there, at least when it comes to wedding rings.
For gold lovers, for sure, but even more so for those that simply dont want to get ripped off.

Why waste money on 14k, 9k gold jewelry that is essentially worthless in the end?

But it will have sentimental value!

If its just for the sentimental value, get her a steel nut and paint it yellow. Save your money.

I personally like gold, but I wouldnt call myself a "gold bug".

I went into this wanting to get the most for my money. And I did. That makes me happy. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
