If you're using @Reward.App to receive Liquid HIVE Rewards, BE CAREFUL! The service is NOT compatible with Splintertalk!

Today, an user in one of the Discord Channels I'm part of complained that his SPT rewards on Splintertalk disappeared when he used @Reward.App services (I've blurred his name for anonymity):

To avoid this kind of issue happening with other people, I'm writing this short post to help the community.

What is @Reward.App?

@Reward.App is a very nice service created by @cardboard and @acidyo that helps the whole Hive community.

According to themselves:

@reward.app is a service that allow users to receive post rewards in liquid form. By default, post reward is paid half in HBD an half in Hive Power (locked Hive). Authors using @reward.app service receive half of the post payout in HBD and half in Liquid Hive (not locked in HP). By receiving whole payout in liquid form, users are able to instantly use all of the funds. They are free to power it up, invest it in the HIVE ecosystem (hive-engine tokens, splinterlands cards etc.) or simply sell it without need to wait 3 months period of power-down.

It couldn't be easier than that: by using their services, you can receive your HIVE rewards in the liquid, tradeable form (HIVE tokens itself), and not in Hive Power (HP) as it's the default.

If you're wanting to trade your HIVE rewards, you should definitely be using their service, as you won't need to wait the long period of powering them down ("un-staking"). In the other hand, if you want to stake your HIVE and increase your Hive Power, there's no reason to use it at all.

The cost of the service is incredibly small, almost negligible: they charge only a 1% fee on the author's rewards.

Tribes Tokens & Splintertalk Rewards (SPT)

When you use @reward.app services, you have to setup their account as the Beneficiary of your post (on their Quick Guide linked above there's an explanation on how to do it).

But the Beneficiary of a post is used to receive both Hive rewards and Tribes Rewards, like SPT (Splintertalk) and NEOXAG (Neoxian City)

And the problem is: the Tribe Rewards are NOT shared with the author! These Tribe Tokens are kept 100% by @reward.app

Usually, this isn't a big problem, as Hive Rewards are way more valuable than Tribe Tokens anyway.

But, right now, given the high price of SPT token due the SPS Airdrops on Splinterlands, the rewards in Splintertalk can be much more valuable than the Hive Rewards depending on the votes you receive.

The only exception to this problem is the LEO Token from LeoFinance. According to this post, LeoFinance ignores @reward.app as beneficiary, so LEO Rewards are sent to the original author.

So, if you're posting on Splintertalk and are expecting to receive large SPT rewards, do NOT use @reward.app! The SPT rewards will NOT be shared with you, the author.

Conclusion

Have in mind that this is NOT done in bad faith by the @reward.app creators. As far as I understood, there's nothing they can do, on their end, to solve this issue.

What can be done is that the Tribe itself (in this case, Splintertalk) can ignore them as a beneficiary, like Leo.Finance did a few months ago, so tribe token rewards goes to the original author as intended.

Let's hope that Splintertalk does what's needed to be done, allowing our whole community to use this great service without losing the SPT rewards by mistake.
