A new Hiver/Leo with a minimal stake should upvote anyway if for no other reason that to get the clock moving on reaching dusting threshold. This is the magic number at which a curator or author (or curator and author) begin to receive notifications of those rewards.

Assuming that a post is set to receive rewards as either 100% HP (or 100% LEO Power) or a 50/50 split between HP and HBD, dusting threshold is set for USD 0.020 (2 cents). It will take a while to accumulate enough HP (or LEO Power) before the notifications arrive, but arrive they will. This is another reason why engagement is so important.

To reach dusting threshold faster, become a follower of both @dustbunny and @dustsweeper. These accounts will give you enough "dust" to give your upvotes a bit of heft as your HP/LP accumulate.
