The United States real GDP decreased at an annualized rate (and seasonally adjusted) of 1.6% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the fourth quarter of 2021, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis report. This is the third estimate. This report adjusts the previous estimates.

If the next quarter shows a further decline, the formal definition of a recession will be met.
