Splinterlands a couple days ago hit a milestone. The game had ran over a 1 billion battles. It is not clear if the battles included practice and brawls but or just ranked battles. Either way its an amazing achievement and one for the record. Congrats @splinterlands and here is their official twitter post.

Somewhat related the current participation in the guild brawls seem to be limited. On the contrary to record battles play, the amount of players partaking in brawls is limited. Based on top rich list of how many players hold Merits there is less than 9,000 accounts all combined. By comparison there are nearly 740k accounts with credits, which my interpretation is how many played accounts in the entire game.

The concern I have is that all though brawl is an additional branch of the Splinterlands gaming experience I fear the limited participants will further separate the future participants from ever joining to participate. This post I show evidence that current active players in brawls are widening its lead on non-brawl players. The separation may lead to future separation between the haves and the haves not. However I would take a neutral perspective as much as possible so not to have a one sided story.

Gladius Cards

Based on top holders rich list there are approximately under 1,000 players currently holding at least 1 Gladius case while close to 9k players have earned merits. So safe to assume there is under 9k of players that has at least 5 Gladius cards. On the other hand over 700,000 players do not have any Gladius cards. This is because the cards are earned and attacked to the account they originated.

The game developers nicely planned ahead and made sure the cards would not be able to be bought and sold therefore luring and incentivizing players to join guild brawls. The cards other benefits than being able to played in brawls is that they count toward total player's collection power and can be burned for DEC. These incentives may not be sufficient enough seeing current participation is very limited.

Guilds

There are approximately 1300 guilds and assuming on average each guild can accept up to 16 members it equates to 20,800. That is slightly more than twice the amount of players who are already participating in guild brawls.

So why are there not more guilds playing brawls? One reason is guilds cost money to build and in order to qualify for brawls additional investments are needed toward different guild upgrades.

Since DEC price has fallen quite a bit from all time highs it is still close to 3x from peg. This maybe partial cause as to why not enough guilds have enough vested into participating in brawls.

Players In A Class Of Their Own

Within the limited players who are participating in brawls there are even higher achievements to be met beyond earning Gladius cases. The achievements is to obtain stones that help a player's chance of drawing legendary or gold foil when opening Gladius cases.

To date no one is currently holding Power Stones however there are 21 players holding Blood Stones.

I would consider these players the elites of the elites. Like the 0.01% top players. In order to obtain a Blood Stone the guild has to have their building upgraded to level 6 and have earned merits. Although a stone only costs 60 merits where by top winning guilds earn thousands per brawl it an achievement to save enough merits to purchase both stones and Gladius cases.

Concerns or Just Good Gamification?

We started out with over 700k accounts that have some form of crypto in their accounts making them potential active players. Then we quickly went down to a potential of close to 20k players who have joined a guild. From there less than 9k players ranked to guild brawls to earn merits. End it with only 21 players that have reach the point to be able to buy a Gladius Blood Stone. That last group is quite special considering the entire pool of participants who do not remotely come close to earning the Blood Stone.

The rank battles themselves is a challenge in itself and a lot of players are very pleased with just being in ranked battles. How else can the game average out nearly 10 million battles a day!

The reason I like playing games is because of the experience. Whether I am win a lot or loss a lot I get the feeling of success and failure through it all. I get to interact with fellow gamers to share ideas and strategies to better my odds in winning. While not battling I almost always think about what steps I can take in game perparation in order to increase my odds of winning. Whether it is to strategize how I can save enough assets to purchase a specific card that would enhance my deck. Or to figure out how to wisely spent what I earn in the game to reinvest into the guild or into my own card collection. There are multiple ways to play the game.

Rank battles and guild brawls in itself are separate gaming experiences. Few maybe able to enjoy the opportunity to play in brawls, but as a whole its is a nice measuring stick for everyone who plays to see how far they can go. How far they can reach to the top of the guilds and to the leader boards. Those are some valuable experiences not many can experience. Its all apart of the game.

Until next time thanks for reading!!!
