Go small or big with your project? They will both take the same time

We all have some projects, ambitions, things we are working on. Some people want to start a consultancy and just make a living, others want to make an imperium, build something huge, take it to the stock market, and get rich beyond their dreams.

I think what's really interesting is that it takes just as many hours, energy, and days to build something small as it is to build something big. Right isn't that strange? And a lot of times we don't think about it that way. Now if you have a passion for something, why don't go big? Why don't have hairy, big dreams and ambitions?

Often when I get involved with either consulting startups, or doing my own projects, I ask myself, does this has the potential to reach 100 million euros in turn over? And will it be able to do that in 7-10 years? If yes, let's go crazy and do it, if no, let's not do it at all.

Imagine someone who builds up a hairdresser saloon. They spend 6 years operating it, building that one location, and now they have a stable income, a client base, and something that works. Now, in the meantime, someone else had a dream to start a hairdressing chain and opened up 25 locations, have good systems in order, and can probably take more time off than the person running his own business, have more freedom and more resources. And what's really strange, is that they probably put the same amount of hours in.

Now I know not everyone will agree with me, but this is my view on how to evaluate if a project is worth doing.

Cheers, Max
