Only those who are somewhat new to the idea of blogs and crypto, would not know about all the failed attempts (imo) to dethrone Hive(previously steem). Trybe is one of these attempts, but I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say there must be more than 10 clones out there at this point.

The Compromise

I could break down the reasons why In my opinion the clones never took off. I won't like, up to a point I wanted some of them to do so. Why? Well, for one because I believe free markets and competitions are good, but also because I sincerely believe that the new web3.0 is going to be built on top of blockchain.

That being said, none of the projects managed to compromise enough. I'm more than willing to listen to someone correcting my assertion, but it seems like the people behind the projects, the "founders" if you will, could not manage to give up control.

You see, that's the trick, that's the challenge. It's not only to make a pretty app(website) and make it easy for people to post. It's also about truly decentralizing it, making it censorship resistant and democratizing the resources.

This compromise has proven to be unattainable by most projects. The question: How do we get paid for all the work? was on the forefront of their conversations I'm sure. But also, how to avoid legal issues for allowing "free speech".

As you might guess..

Gatekeeping kept many away

It sure did for me. Specifically talking about Trybe, I could not digest the idea that they had to approve my post.

Unless things changed shortly after I abandoned the account of course. You would submit a post, doing so would cost you tokens, and if it was "good to go" it would get published by an admin.

Sounds very decentralized, right? Well, you could imagine how I feel about this, if you follow this blog, but I'm sure I was not alone on this.

Is trybe dead?

Well, the website is still up. But, the tokens as far as I can tell are worthless. I don't even know if the exchange listed is actually working. A good indication of a coin you should say away from is one where the trading volume has question marks.

I would say, it's in a coma, but it looks like there's no way of getting the horse back up.

My point

I guess remembering Trybe, and the other projects just cements my thoughts on this blockchain. It's not because Hive was first, but it's because through all the fumbles, mistakes and challenges, it kept the core ideals intact.
