Higher Education - The More Expensive, The Better

Education is the way, education is the key, education builds the future leaders of tomorrow... Simply put, Education is a very important aspect of the human life and every child deserves to be educated (sometimes not minding how grand the education system is or it's not). In the olden days, many didn't go to school as there wasn't any structure for it but education wasn't on exile then, there were people who taught and those who learned what they could even in the lack of educational resources situation.

While it is possible for education to be free... It isn't something I see happening in my country, may never even happen because I've come to realize that education keeps getting more expensive by every session and families are finding it harder to send their kids to school but still, many are still opportune to go to school and graduate. So no matter how expensive education is, many will still see it's importance beyond the expenses. There's a quote I so much agree with about education...

If you think education is expensive, try ignorance. Quote by Jeff Rich

This quote alone is more than enough to convince anyone that education is a very important aspect of life you must go through. But then, it isn't compulsory where the education process is being carried out. I've seen excellent people who only studied at the most lowest ranking schools where they had access to almost nothing. They didn't spend much but they do great at being educated.

Education isn't expensive, it is the pockets of the individuals who wants to get educated that aren't rich enough for it. And this would raise the issue for free education to be provided. This is a good deed as many who aren't opportune to study will get the chance. But the question is... Will education be valued that way?

Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence. Quote by Abigail Adams

What I see is that, education won't be valued as much as when it is expensive or made less expensive. Making it free would bring in all sort of students to the system and so many will take it for granted (I've seen countless times how people act towards free things). Education is for everyone but studying in a school setting isn't for everyone, not everyone would excel there so what's the need of providing a general free education? It could be that their star would shine brighter when they are educated on a trade or skill.

The most important point to note is that the individual involved must be willing to learn, sought for it and attend to learning with diligence... That way you'd be sure they will get educated and it isn't about providing free education. I'm not against scholarships that are being provided for excellent kids who solely deserve such as they have proven to be interested in being educated not minding their circumstances.

Free higher education? It will affect everything in every way (both positive & negative)

Using my country, Nigeria as case study, Free education seem impossible to happen but if eventually it does happen... It will have these effects on both the students and the economy.

  • Inadequate learning system

Deciding to sponsor free education for only a few students isn't easy, it's worse to do same for many students and that would learn to the students lacking some important educational equipments. Since it's free, more students will be enrolled because every parent wants their child to be educated leading to too many students available for the free education provided.

  • A worse economy

The country I know would blame the free education they are providing to be the cause of the worse economy because this would mean, individuals who are supposed to be doing agricultural works have all decided to study leaving a big vacancy and cause food scarcity and other economical disadvantages.

  • Unpaid or unsatisfied teachers

If giving free education would mean paying the teachers less, students are in for less quality teaching because no teacher is happy teaching when they have to go home to borrow before eating. But this is what would happen if free education is provided in my country.

There are other effects to having free education provided but I'd like to stop here and conclude with my title... *Higher education is supposed and should be expensive, but the less expensive the better. (haha yeah, I made the title up)
