Splinterlands has a Winterfest promotion for the next six days.

If you buy a pack, you are guaranteed a common promo card. There's a 2% chance of a gold foil and if you buy 50 packs, then there's a guarantee of at least one gold foil.

I am currently in a 52 week challenge to open a Chaos pack each week, and due to the declining value of cards, it is starting to go south for me. That said, I want to at least see what the promo card is like. Fortunately, (and unfortunately) DEC is on the decline this week. Tribaldex shows it as $0.00056 That's a pretty long ways from the peg of $0.001. Which means that purchasing Chaos packs with DEC is a great discount. Chaos packs can be purchased with 4,000 DEC from Splinterlands. If DEC is down, then the dollar cost to purchase a pack is also reduced. 4,000 DEC equals $2.24. That's much better than paying $4.00 in credits for a pack. I am not adding any new money (Fiat) into Splinterlands at this point. My original investment is worth about 40% of what I initially added into Splinterlands.
So, instead I saved my rental income from cards to buy today's pack. Here's the result of my pack purchase from Winterfest. The 12 mana card is Arkemis The Bear. I received the common version and it is worth $0.16. As for the rest of the pack..... I need to wait until I have more potions to open the pack. But if past results are any indication, then I should keep my expectations low at less than $2.00 of value.
I took a risk on the promo card, because promos some times increase in value. That may not be the case with this promo since the total card count is 385,264 with 3,698 of those available, according to Peakmonsters.com
