Latest on THORChain's THORFI - Community Signals Ready
In software architecture, a very important part of the design is Testing, many do this through Virtual machines, Testnets and other sorts of artificial simulations, depending on the complexity of the software, however, in some cases, artificial simulations and Testnets are simply not enough to expose all the bugs in the program.
Especially when those programs involve modeling features that have to anticipate real life behaviors like human greed in a financial environment. Itās simply impossible to do at once, after some level of artificial testing should come the real life testing phase that can be further developed upon.
ThorFiis a very anticipated update within the Thorchain community, the lead Dev recently announced on Twitter that the code was ready for shipping and asked the community if it should be shipped to mainnnet or not.
Before I go on, let me jiggle our memory a bit about ThorFi.
ThorFi is the update that is supposed to give the ability to Lending and collateralizing assets, and to also create an algo Stable coin(TOR) that will bring massive utility to $RUNE token.
I wrote this post 4 months ago when the matter was first raised in the community, out of 8,234 people that voted on the poll raised by the THORChainās Twitter account,
43% were in favor of postponing the shipping of ThorFi. the larger crypto community was still plagued with trauma from Terraās crash and people were very reluctant to hear anything algo stable token which was meant to be a huge part of the ThorFi design.
Itās 4 months after and it seems like the community is finally ready for some ThorFi action as revealed by the result of the latest poll.
While this is all nice and cool, it remains a fact that it took 4 months to garner a positive sentiment within the community about a development that had been ready for shipping 4 months ago when we all agree that 4 month in crypto is like 2 decades, this is 4 months that could have been used to put ThorFi to real life testing that we can never get back.
While I appreciate open communication within devs and community using a protocol, at what point does it begin to stifle the development of the said protocol? Does it mean if the community donāt want it because of fear, the developers wonāt build it? š¤·āāļø Even governance system doesnāt solve this because at the end of the day, people still cast the votes based on emotions as weāve seen.
For me, Iām not in favor of asking before shipping, Iām in favor of discussing possibilities and shipping the results of those possibilities into reality. Let devs do their work and let the protocols speak for itself.
No further words about ThorFi yet from the THORChainās devs but it seems to be underway given the result of the poll. AVAX integration is presently taking the stage as it would be launched in about a day or two.
