Finally got the first half of the THOR claimdrop out of Thorswap, and it cost me around $235 to pull out $671, giving me a profit of around $436 which I’ve dumped into my HBD savings for 10%APY.

I plan to pool the other half of the claimdrop when I eventually summon the courage to face those deadly Ethereum gas fees, hopefully the timing works for good. Belemo’s case is so disheartening, I’ve followed every detail of the incident, the worst part is that whatever led to the hack is still unknown.

edicted suggested that there are chances the hack was orchestrated by the Nigerian government, but while its true that they move mad, I highly doubt that they are sophisticated enough to pull such stunt given that Belemo claims not to have clicked any alien link all the while and even before the hack happened.

And it’s very understandable for me because I practically do the same thing, the sites I visit mostly are only Hive sites, Splinterlands, Thoryield and occasionally projects I’m researching about. I hardly even visit cubdefi, let alone swing my passkeys about.

This even makes the situation more scary as it opens the occurrence to countless unknown attack vectors, could the hacker had gotten hold of his passkeys way before now and only chose to act now? Could the hacker have installed a key logger on Belemo’s laptop somehow? No one knows!

It was also revealed that the hacker hacked two other wallets after Belemo’s, what the heck is this attack rampage all about! The hackers account is visible but unfortunately the identity remains unknown and there’s nothing that can be done about it.

$10k is no small money to loose especially for a Nigerian, I applaud Belemo as he’s handling the situation with courage and not crumbling all over the place.

Moving on, security has to be revisited and taken more seriously, the best advice around has been to get a hardware wallet, it’s urgently the next thing on my table right now. Now I appreciate Hive more for its security than ever, pulling off such a hack on Hive is not impossible but there are many fail safes than not, this is something people should remember when clamoring to reduce power down time.

I hope belemo recovers in time. Stay safe out there guys, the streets are not playing nice.

Stay humble.

Thanks for reading.
