Well everyone loves an old coin but sometimes research can be tricky, with this coin i initially thought it was Prussian with the double headed eagle but i couldn't find it going through the lists on http://www.numista.com and after going through Prussian, Russian, Austrian and many German states i decided to have a look at the Netherlands and low and behold i found it.

A solid hour of searching was worth it as i can now put a name to a face and i will use this info learned in the future, now i have never seen this coin before so it was exciting.

The coin is from Nijmegen in the Dutch Republic which is in the east close to the German border, it is a low grade silver being only 58.3% silver and holds a measly sum of £1.74 in bullion value but the numismatic value far out weighs this and holds a value around £30 to £40 in this condition.

The coin itself is a 6 Stuiver and features a knight on horse back, it also featues a crest with a double eagle which is the Crest of Nijmegen, i will be keeping this coin in my wallet as my lucky silver coin for a while as i have Dutch heritage from 4 generations ago.

Another pickup was this sweet little silver lid to a cigarette box i bought for scrap but i will try and find a lead crystal base for it in the future, the guy i got this from told me the local pawn shop offered him 10p per gram which made me laugh and i offered him 40p per gram just 1p under what london scrap dealers paid.

Now i dont smoke anymore but i will use it was odds and bobs if i ever find a nice bit of glass, failing that i may make a nice wooden base.
