Investment in Silver but not coins, but exactly what is it?
Most people when buying silver for an investment go for coins or bullion but i like to have a mix and i have a weakness for historical items and the beautiful game of Football.
The item we have here is actually two items in one with it first being a medal that was awarded to the winners of the Leicestershire Association Senior Cup way back in 1896 and it also doubles for a watch fob for a silver albert chain.
If your asking yourself what is it worth, let me put my opinion on that in 3 ways.
1st is the precious metals and it is about £20 which is a measly amount and if someone melted that well they have no soul in my opinion
2nd is for a watch collector who collects fobs and it has a value of about £30 as it is a real beauty
3rd is for the Football fan, i did a little bit of research on the winners of this cup and it was Leicester Fosse who i had never heard of so i then googled that and it turns out they became Leicester City, so knowing a little bit of history and who the target audience is finding a buyer from this club would boost the value maybe to £50 as people have a sentiment which blinds them to price when it comes to their own team.
Now we have had a look at the price it is time to flick the medal over and checkout the hallmarks reading left to right.
The first mark is a Lion Passante which indicates it is sterling silver
The second mark is the date letter, this is actually a letter Q but it is upside down which is 1890 and it is always a good idea to double check hallmarks
The fourth mark is the makers mark, i am struggling to find the maker as it is not listed but it looks like VADCHICN or possible VAUCHICN but i am unsure and will ask a friend when i see him next week.
Looking at another mark above it has a V&G which could be Vale & Charles of Hockley St Birmingham but i will ask about as more knowledge about an item the better.
I will cover more random items in the future so subscribe and checkout my journey.
