If you follow me you will know i turn scrap silver into random castings, i intended for this to have a video but my battery died on my video camera so i have to just use the pics i was going use for inserts to share todays castings.

Todays castings are of a Native American and an Egyptian scarab beetle, like any sand casting the better your mould the better your cast and this is where you should spend your time as it saves loads later, as you can see the void left my the original object is quite neat apart from my pouring channels which need some work but they do work.

When your casting the most nervous moment is opening the mould and seeing if your casting looks ok and as you can see it looks pretty darn good, once opened i popped them out and quenched them in cold water and moved them to my clean up bench.

The scarab beetle turned out really nice with crisp details and minimum flashing which only required the smallest amount of filing and a quick 10 min buff on a polishing wheel, the strangest thing about polishing silver is it heats up very quickly when polishing and requires a few moments to cool down.

The native american required a little more clean up as it had a small amount of flashing but was still crisp and captured most of the detail from the original model, there was a bit under his trailing leg i could cut out but this seems overkill, i will add a bit of self adhesive felt to this one to finish it off.

Conclusion

I enjoyed making these on my day off but i did miss most off the sunshine but i did catch the last hour with a beer, if you have wondered all the images in this post are taken by me and great time is taken to bring you quality posts so please subscribe and upvote when possible.
