CubDeFi was my first experience with DeFi and since I joined I've been going further down the rabbit hole and learned so much more about blockchain! Learning about DeFi was in the back of my mind for a while and the CUB airdrop was the incentive that I was needing.

Six days ago @leofinance announced that they're going to develop a polygon platform for cub and airdrop some tokens. Once again nudging me to learn about polygon and getting ready so that I can take full advantage of the new platform since day 1. If you're already familiar with Binance Smart Chain and Metamask then you'll have no problem adapting to polygon, it is the same but with WAY LOWER transaction fees, fractions of a penny. The tricky part is how to avoid paying insane ETH fees to start using it.

I hate wasting money on transaction fees so I was deadset on finding a way to start using polygon without bridging MATIC with an ETH bridge and be destroyed by the fees. I will explain the entire process where I paid ~$1 total.

1 - Connect Metamask with Matic Network

I'm assuming you already have some knowledge about how Metamask works and you've used the Binance Smart chain before, if you haven't I would start by learning how to use the Binance Smart Chain before hopping over to Polygon since we'll need to use the BSC to bridge our crypto over to Polygon (Matic Network).

Go to your Networks -> Custom RPC -> Copy everything you see on the second picture and save it.

2 - Buy USDC on your preferred Decentralized Exchange (DEX) on the BSC

You MUST use Binance Smart Chain for this! Go to CubDeFi, pancakeswap or 1inch for example and trade some of your tokens for USDC. I'm not sure if there's any minimum amount required, I decided to start with $100 just to be safe.

3 - Bridge your USDC from the BSC over to the Polygon (Matic Network)

For this step I used https://evodefi.com/bridge?token=USDC and everything worked out fine. The best part about using this bridge is that they offer you a small amount of polygon so that you can pay for some transactions once your USDC arrives at the new chain. It should take only a couple of seconds. They charge a 0.5% commission for the service.

"Note, we send you 0.001 Matic with every bridge transaction. Which is enough to make up to 50 transactions!"

Some interesting projects to play with while we wait for CubDeFi to arrive:

We're seeing a lot of DeFi projects coming over to Polygon and some of the most famous and that I decided to explore with my tiny $100 initial experimental investment were. Aave a decentralized lending platform and Beefy finance. I will share how much I invested in each platform, how much I'm earning/losing, and how they work in a future post.

Be careful where you invest your money, just recently we had a big platform (Iron Fiance) getting a good old-fashioned bank run that destroyed the project. It wasn't very solid so I stayed away from it.

In the future, CubDeFi will have a bridge that will be cheaper than 0.5% but for the time being, this was the cheapest way I found of transferring my funds over to the polygon (Former Matic) blockchain.

As always if you have a better and cheaper method of accomplishing this please share it in the comments so that I can investigate.

Hope you found this post valuable and support me on this journey of pursuing crypto full time from now on. Have a great week
