In Episode 5, Julia K. Ponsford has graced us with an interview! Julia is a Legend of the Blockchain and needs know introduction! Lets cut straight to the interview!

What is your home Country and city?

Julia K. Ponsford: "I currently live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada"

Can you introduce the Hive to the “Alien Art Hive”. Community, and give us a taste of what it’s all about?

Julia K. Ponsford:"I started the Alien Art Hive back when we were still on the steem blockchain, December of 2019 accourding to hiveblocks.com! I wanted to create a community that was accepting of all types of art but especially to encourage experimentation and put the focus on more niche styles of art, such as psychedelic, generative, outsider art etc. The community has grown to just over 2000 subscribers and has many amazing artist posting each day. We also have support from @OCD so there is some curation support which is done by the amazing @castleberry!"

You are not just an artist, You are also an NFT collector. I know because I lost out on a first edition purchase to you on an Artist I love to collect a few timesSmiling face with open mouth When I see a first edition NFT, Im in a panic getting my Hive together before Julia K my arch NFT nemesis claims it! Do you look for artwork based on emotional value, or do you have a technical formula you also follow? Can you give the fans of NFT Showroom an education on how to shop for NFT Art? I believe your opinion will help create a new sense of value in NFT Art that a fan may not pickup on or understand for lack of technical knowledge.

Julia K. Ponsford: "NFT Showroom has an amazing selection of art that is generally quite affordable so this has allowed me to grow a huge collection! So huge in fact I had to create a second account to showcase it: https://nftshowroom.com/alienmuseum/gallery

The gallery are pieces I have featured, the rest is in the collection tab!"

"When collecting NFTs I don’t really have a formula per say, I buy what I love in terms of aesthetics and story of the art. Sometimes it’s the creation process which I find very novel or mysterious that catches my eye. I love trying to collect an artists first mint if I can. We call this a genesis token. First mints are generally regarded to be more valuable but I also remember how excited I was to sell my first work of art so it makes me very happy to bring that joy to someone else :D"

Acid Ballet: By Julia K. Ponsford

You have incorporated some incredible art techniques that to me are cutting edge, and harness the power of technology to it’s fullest potential to express your trade craft, Your NFT creation,“Acid Ballet” is one example. Can you tell us more about your ballet series?

Julia K. Ponsford: "For the Ballet series I am using a style transfer software called ebsynth! I have only just begun diving into it’s capabilities, but essentially you can take a video clip, choose a frame or multiple frames and paint, collage, alter the frames. The software then allows you to apply this style to the whole video. I have enjoyed playing with it as it is very experimental and the result can be quite surprising! Hopefully I will have time to dive even deeper into it."

Tell the Hive Blockchain about your minnow support project,“Ocean of Art”!

Julia K. Ponsford: "Ocean of Art is a curation I have been doing for a few years now, I am a moderator for PAL/Minnowsupport so I have been overseeing our msp-curation project. The aim of this project is to use our delegations and allow trusted members of the community to hand pick posts they think deserve more support. My niche of course is art, and to shine a bit more light on amazing artists we have on HIVE. Anyone can support by following the msp-curation trail!"

What are some of your Pre-NFT Art influences, where they other artists, or did certain world events inspire you to use art as a medium for communicating ideas or concepts? was their a major epiphany that pushed you over the edge into the world of Alien Art?

Julia K. Ponsford: "It’s a bit difficult to make a list of my influences as there are so many! I’ve always been a huge fan of sci-fi books and films so I am sure there is some influence there, as for artists I tend to enjoy anything surrealist or dreamlike, I would say the biggest influencer on my art is my subconcious. I often start a piece of art with an abstract idea and watch it evolve, the end result sometimes even surprises me to be completely honest. It’s interesting that I can sometimes look at my own work after the fact and discover new personal meaning that wasn’t immediately apparent."

"I’ve always found the idea of aliens to be very intriguing, I didn’t really start this alien art thing purposely, but I think it allowed me to experiment with surreal style figures and the term alien just fit. I think many people/artists can resonate with the idea of feeling like an alien or not fitting in so it seems to resonate."

Please speak one of your Dreams, Goals, or Desires into existence by telling the world about it and giving it life. I believe we can help each other achieve success by believing each others dreams into existence.

"I have quite simple aspirations, I would love to be able to live off my art and have pure creative freedom. I also want to evolve NFT Showroom and support as many artists as possible! My longer term goal is to get out of the city, move into my own home with @vachemorte and live the quiet life with a small garden."

What does an NFT mean to you?( I must let everyone know that I ask this question every interview. I believe what an NFT is has not yet been defined and by tying art to a crypto value, have we opened Pandora’s Box?)

"In simple terms, when talking about art (because NFTs are much more than art) an NFT allows you to cement your art and the associated information onto an immutable ledger, trade it on a market and verify provenance. Cryptoart however has been the movement away from the traditional art world to make buying and selling art more accessible. Artists now have a lot more power on where they can display and distribute their art. With the metaverse and evolving tech I think we will see many new and innovative uses for NFTs in the coming years and I’m excited to see where it goes!"
