The developers behind Chibi Fighters have announced that their side project A1 Fighters is closing down. The servers will close, starting from April 30th. The developers haven't announced a reason for closing down the project, but most likely it didn't bring in the money that was originally anticipated.

The developers announced A1 Fighters in October last year. The game, represented by the legal company A1 Fighters LLC, was supposed to serve as an advertising platform. Gamers could earn digital rewards like for example tokens or cryptocurrency.

Early investors could earn a share of the revenue made through the platform. However, most likely most investors didn't even make their money back. The lack of advertising efforts and marketing hurt the project. Development was slow and the game never really took off.

The developers won't stop making games though. Chibi Fighters is still under development. The developer is selling card packs for his idle role playing game. The game runs on both the Tron and the Ethereum blockchain. In addition the developer is adding The Great Escape expansion to the main game in the coming four to six weeks. This should add another mode for gamers to try their cards and collectible chibis.

Next level video game marketing

The promise was that A1 Fighters would gamify airdrop marketing promotions for blockchain companies. Similar things we've seen when Decentraland launched and gave away MANA and in-game assets to players. It's an interesting concept, only possible through blockchain technology.

Many game companies use in-game advertisements on in-game billboards and race cars. But marketing can also be a lot more creative. Marvel Studios promoted its hit movies The Avengers: Infinity War and The Avengers: End Game in the popular battle royale game Fortnite. Characters and items from the two movies made an appearance in the online game.
