Microsoft's .NET Foundation is looking at blockchain technology for its active open-source projects. These projects include machine learning, artificial intelligence and cloud computing. NEO has joined the foundation as its first blockchain-focused member. Earlier this week Amazon Web Services became a corporate sponsor, taking a seat next to Microsoft, Google, Unity, Samsung, Red Hat, Unity and more companies.

Before joining the .NET Foundation NEO already contributed to the open-source platform. Earlier this month they launched the NEO Blockchain Toolkit for .NET developers. This toolkit includes a debugger and compiler for smart contracts. In addition it also offers as a developer focused chain explorer, which can be integrated into Visual Studio Code.

NEO's addition to the .NET Foundation is supposed to 'accelerate developer innovation to drive mass adoption of blockchain and build the foundation for next-gen Internet'. Currently there are more than 3700 companies participating in 56 active projects.

Decentralized solutions becoming more common

NEO joining the .NET Foundation is just one example of innovation. There are many companies looking at blockchain technology to improve the quality of their products. For example, blockchain can provide transparency in a supply chain, or optimize current processes.

People with a passion for tech will become even more exited by the way the tech sector is looking at decentralized networks. Tech giant Cisco is now working with blockchain startup SingularityNet to develop a human-like artificial intelligence. The European Space Agency has even pumped some money in SpaceChain to investigate to possibilities for a blockchain network powered by satellites.

The rise of decentralized networks might be the end of centralized ones. Potentially telecom companies might no longer be needed because all phones are working on a decentralized network. When every phone is a node in a network, then there's no need to even have phone companies. This is future talk, but interesting nonetheless.
