Hello and welcome to the next part of guide to the decentralised city, dCity. I hope your cities are running smoothly, because today we're going to focus on the rather important topic of Events and Crises.

As you probably know, even in a mega-efficient city where everything works as it should, an incident can happen which results in negative things for our citizens. Crises are events that happen globally throughout the game and affect every mayor. The chance of a single incident ranges from one to as much as 20 percent and can occur during the daily rewards distribution. The chance for a single Crisis increases from 1% and when it happens the chance resets to the first percentage.

When a crisis occurs the penalty is for every account on the same day. There are also prevention cards that will help you fight Crises, but more on that later. Let's now list the types of Crises.

There are currently 6 Crises that can affect us. These are Pandemic, Fires, Riots, Economy crisis, Power Outage and Nature Disaster. Each of these has a different negative effect. For example, Pandemic makes 20% of the population sick and unable to work. Social Support costs 0.4 more for each sick citizen. Fires and Power Outage reduce income by 5%, Economy crisis by 10% and Riots and Nature Disaster reduce both income and popularity of a city by 5%. It's worth noting that crises can happen at the same time, so your city can be on fire and without power.

For small cities this may be a marginal effect on the city, but for a mayor managing a large metropolis the percentage seems to be higher. A city must therefore be protected from crises. This is what prevention cards are for. These cards can either be bought or created with the help of Combined cards. Currently there are 4 of these cards, Vaccine, Crisis Bond, Prepared Police and Energy Reload. Each prevention card works on a different Crisis. Please note that the card must be activated, then it works for 7 days. Below is a list of how each prevention card works.

  • Vaccine, this card is produced by Experimental Lab and works on Pandemic Crisis. When it works there are 80% less people sick during the Pandemic.
  • Crisis Bond, produced by Central Bank, works on Economy Crisis. Negates the effect of Crisis completely.
  • Prepared Police is produced by Police Academy, when activated it gives immunity to Riots and doubles the crime rate decrease stat for Police Station card.
  • Energy Reload is the last card created by Power Distributor that acts on Power Outage crisis. It negates the effects of Crisis.

As you can see the potential in these cards is quite high, the higher the bigger the size of your city is.

Let us now turn to events. These are events which only we have influence on. Events give us positive bonuses to the city which makes it worth to try our luck and activate the event. There are 6 Events in the game and for each of them we pay with different token, which you can buy on Hive Engine. Remember that for the Event to work your city must have at least 10 popularity points. Below you will be able to see how my Event bonuses look like and now I will briefly summarize what each Event gives.

  • Beer Fest, popularity bonus and chance for Worker or Hard Worker card,

  • Science Convention, a bonus to education and a chance to win a Scientist card and a chance to win a STEM Miner,

  • Art Convention, a bonus to creativity and a chance to win an Artist card,

  • Weed Fest, bonus to creativity and chance to win an Artist card, doubled Weed farm production,

  • Poker Night, reduced crime and a chance for a Gambler or Addicted Gambler card,

  • Splinterfest, bonus to ENTRY production, a chance for a Gamer card and a chance to win a Dice pack.

I think the odds were in my favour. For 24 hours I received a lot of cards, 3 Gambler, 2 Hard Worker, 5 Artist and 2 Worker. I think that if you are lucky, it pays to buy an Event once in a while, especially since some of them are very cheap to buy!

I think we have covered the Event and Crises topics, if you have any doubts about today's topic, please write about it in a comment below the post. I will be happy to help solve your problem or conundrum. Keep an eye on my profile and series, because there will be more parts of the dCity game guide.
