They launched with such optimism.

I still remember the discord at the time of the latest set launching. We were still at the height of the bull market, users were flooding in by the thousand.

Rentals could pay your actual rent and it looked like the party would never end. People were making bets as to how long the full set would take to sell out. Guesses were in terms of hours and days as card prices reached an all time high with all of the new users in the game and limited card supply.

Then it ended. Abruptly and painfully. A lot like the rest of the play to earn movement that hit the wall.

We had millions of chaos packs sitting there, reward cards, nodes for sale, runi, riftwatchers, SPS dropping in value by the minute and all of these new players leaving as fast as they had arrived putting the team sitting on a massive pile of......card packs.

If the team hadn't made one good call a few months back we would still be looking at them for xmas presents.

But they did take action and made a very good decision. The said that they would start burning the chaos packs daily until they ran out and this put a hard deadline on their max shelf life. They had gotten a bit too greedy by doubling the price from beta and overprinted with the expectation of massive growth killing the market with floods of new cards and assets at the exact same time.

Luckily we have reached the end of most of these sales for now and the market is getting a chance to breathe and build up it's value again. Hopefully we see the first version of land released soon which will soak up some of this supply and help with the current market and rentals.

Even common reward cards have doubled in price this week from 1c to 2c which might seem like nothing but it's a very healthy sign that there is demand for these cards again after a year of dropping prices. The other driving factor in this is the new souldbound reward cards which mean that smaller players need to buy and rent these older cards as they won't be able to earn them and the only way to get the new set is by having older cards to play.

This might just be pushing the problem down the line for when this edition releases onto the market but we won't know how that is going to hit until that day happens in a year or so.

Until then and despite the market tanking today i think that we will see rising prices and a lot of optimism as the team works on it's simplified roadmap and people recycle their earnings into the market.

There are lots of bargains out there from chaos but once the packs are gone you will see the prices slowly rising and think about missed opportunities in a couple of years.

I'm buying up a few maxed cards for my own deck combined with level 2 + 3 for rent and to hold for a couple of years.

Trying to pick the most popular cards for modern format as the older cards have been devalued a lot with the season split. There is a lot less demand for them as most new users stick with the cheaper cards in the latest editions.

As long as the team doesn't do anything stupid and release any new items into the game anytime soon, i think that we should be in for a few good months and a bit of excitement as decks creep up in value and people can see it on their feeds.

Numbers go up, always makes things easier.

Try for yourself.

If you haven't played the game before then now is the best time to join. Today is much better than tomorrow and a lot better than later.
