Hell yeah! I've been looking forward to this day since the beginning of the weekend and @traciyork et al keep this really cool initiative going called HivePUD where the aim is to just power up or stake your HIVE on the 1st of each month! Be sure to check out the full information from Traci's post for more information on the wickedaweseomesauce prizes available!

Generally, I power up pretty much every day to add to the stake but always keep some in reserve to get that big ol' hench bee badge who hasn't missed wing day - you need to power up 1,000 HIVE to get that and I nabbed some last week before the prices started going up so times it well through sheer luck!

This pushed my HP up to:

This increased from my last Power Up post on 1st January (I missed February) from 60,519 HP, that's nearly 2.5k HP increased in 2 months so pretty happy with that! Average of 1.25k HP per month, must have capitalised on those bargain basement prices over the last couple of months!

Benefits of Powering Up

I've highlighted before what the benefits are of having more Hive Power but here's a recap:

  • Stronger votes on content & witnesses - although you may not see this in the first instance, if you stay for a longer time and keep powering up like I have over the last 2.5 years, then you will notice the accumulative effect
  • Earning more curation rewards - kinda goes with point 1 but the way it works is that if you upvote content, you will earn as well (known as curation rewards) so the more Hive Power you have, the more you can potentially earn back
  • Earning "interest" by holding Hive Power - maybe you didn't know this but you will also earn HIVE passively at about 3% per year of what you currently have powered up so the more HIVE you have, the more you can earn from just holding!
  • Earn by delegating - delegating is effectively "loaning" out your HIVE Power to others and some accounts may offer you a daily payment for doing so. If you have more to delegate, you can earn more by delegating which helps grow your balance even more!

There's also an airdrop happening with 3Speak in the coming months depending on how much Hive Power you have so might as well stake what you can until then!

HIVE Power Targets

My aim was to reach Hive Orca by the end of last year and because the price of HIVE was pretty low for a few months (it even went down to 8p at one point!) I saw that as a chance to just buy some more and it helped push me well over the Orca line of about 52k HP and now I'm at about 63k HP with most of it delegated out to various Hive-Engine projects to support new starts or leased. I always upvote comments which should give something in the various other tokens I hold but realised that I should probably keep some HP back to give some rewards in Hive/HBD to you and spread the token out to more folks but I'm pretty naff at curating on the whole!

Slowly but surely wins the race - it's been a combination of posting, networking, buying and staking that has got me there (plus an airdrop when HIVE was created which helped too)! Think long term and keep chipping away!

Hive-Engine Tokens

I'd say the HivePUD movement extends further beyond powering up HIVE and to the various other communities that have their own token as a gesture of support. I seem to be acquiring more and more tokens each day but just furiously went on a staking mission before writing this post!

I don't have any goals as such with these tokens but if you follow me, I post the "Unofficial Ranks" each month that helps to put some targets for various tokens such as CTP, LEO and SPORTS tokens so far but will be seeing about creating some more ranks on the other tokens I have as time goes on for entertainment purposes!

Have you managed to power up some HIVE or Hive-Engine tokens today? Who's got that big old henched bee in their sites? Let me know in the comments below!

Stake it nice and slowly!
