Crypto Stories

We've all started somewhere with crypto and I'm sure we all have our own stories and experiences to tell and where better place to share them then right here on LeoFinance! Feel free to write your own post about it or comment below! Meanwhile, grab yourselves a coffee and let me share with you my story of how I got in to crypto!

End Of 2017 - Getting Started ๐Ÿ‘ถ

I remember hearing about Bitcoin from some colleagues at the end of 2017 but didn't know how to buy any until I saw a Facebook post from a friend who mentioned it and so I reached out to him, he showed me and I fell down the rabbit hole like some sort of "Havey In Wonderland"!

First thing I bought myself was a Ledger Nano S as a Christmas present after reading various articles mentioning hardware wallets being one of the safest ways to store your cryptocurrency. I was nervous, excited, naive and my head exploded at all the projects out there!

Beginning Of 2018 - Hype Train ๐Ÿš…

Getting set up on Coinbase and learning how exchanges work, buying up some tokens in other projects and playing around with them was key to developing my understanding. I was still really excited, seeing a few gains here and there, using that Blockfolio app and checking it like every 5 minutes haha! I was hyped!

I joined a Facebook group called Crypto Watch, which had a lot of venture capitalists in (and your usual shillers of course) but it was pretty well moderated and a lot of great insights were shared on what they were looking at so I spread my wings far and wide. I also discovered STEEM in March 2018 where I could blog and earn something which was right up my street but then...

Rest Of 2018 - Capitulation ๐Ÿ˜ญ

The prices started to go south big time and I saw a 94% drop in my whole portfolio! Projects died, my stomach was churning and tensions were high in some of the groups I was in. Nonetheless, I continued with STEEM and decided to hold back on spending anything in crypto at this point.

First Half 2019 - Taking A Break ๐ŸŒด

Instead, I went travelling for 3 months and was trying to save every penny for this grand adventure around Australia & New Zealand! I kept posting via Actifit sharing microblogs, pictures and updates to friends whilst earning a few pennies so I wouldn't be too badly hit when I came back.

Second Half 2019 - Back To Work ๐Ÿข

When I came back I was fortunate to find a job at a previous company, which helped stop the hemorrhaging of funds and then slowly but surely started dollar cost averaging on BTC. I was also buying STEEM and just leaving those other baron investments to rot at the bottom of my blockfolio! However, I was still very much in the red at the end of 2019 and I never could have predicted what would happen in 2020...

First Half 2020 - Forking Pandemics ๐Ÿด

Then things all changed in a blink of an eye in the first half of 2020 as HIVE was created from STEEM, along with other forks like BLURT and suddenly, after over 2.5 years of pain, I was finally breaking even again and getting in to the green!

The coronavirus was making its way across the world at the same time and turning everything on its head. In terms of crypto, there was a huge flash crash corresponding with the stock markets that sent BTC down to levels not seen since the worst of it in 2018. Blink and you'd have missed it.

That crash in BTC price didn't last for long, I managed to scramble together some funds to buy any amount of BTC I could as I heard murmurings that institutional investors were already loading up - they can't have all the sats!

Second Half 2020 - Full Circle? โ™ป๏ธ

Since getting more involved with HIVE and LEO, I've learned a lot about the different options out there from various blogs I've read and have started maximising how I can acquire more sats within my limit! Things have nearly moved full circle with BTC as the price seems on its way to reaching the heights from when I first joined the merriment.

This time feels different though. I'm excited but I've also been in nearly 3 years and have learned and experienced a LOT. There's a lot less hype, more quiet accumulation, "smart money" is coming in as some people say. Either way, I'll be HODLing and accumulating what I can and seeing where this crazy rabbit hole goes!

So how did you first get involved with crypto? How has your story looked like since you dived in? What do you think things will be like with crypto in 10 years time?? Let me know in the comments below!

Take care

Nicky
