CREATE BETTER COMMENTS THAN POSTS

Recently, I was tasked to write a post on customer experience by my firm which led me into doing some research on the topic. I stumbled upon a very insightful video that made me rethink some of my practices as a content writer.

As a content writer, one who gets paid for creating content, it is imperative that you consider your service as a business. I see everyone viewing this post as a potential customer.

For every business, the primary goal is to make a profit and you achieve this by having people pay for your service and you want those who pay for your service to continue doing so in the long run. It is called customer retention. To achieve this you need to create a positive customer experience.

Creating a positive customer experience has more to do with the quality of service rather than the product itself. In my case as a content creator, the quality of my post is as important as my response to feedback from my readers.

I often tell people that it is grossly irresponsible not to reply to comments on your posts. It is even worse when you take so long to respond.

I know to a large extent, engagement does not matter that much to a lot of people but that would not be the case forever and we all need to cultivate the habit of having meaningful exchanges with other people

If someone took 2-10minutes of their time to read and comment on my posts, then it is only fair I acknowledge that person. This is the only way they would return to read again in the future.

So I tagged this post: creating better comments than posts. This doesn't mean you shouldn't do a decent job at creating decent posts. However, more effort should be put into responding to feedback.

To make better comments and have more returning commenters, you need to do the following things:

SHOW GRATITUDE

Like I said earlier, if someone took their time to comment on your posts, whether it be a negative or positive comment, they deserve to be acknowledged.  A simple "thank you for reading" would do the trick in most cases. However, you can go further with the conversation.

ENGAGE

Write a detailed response highlighting what has been said by the commenter. This goes to show you understand their point of view. Also, add valuable comments to further the discussion.

UPVOTE COMMENTS

Depending on the size of your account, upvoting comments can be a useful way to incentivize people to return to your blog later in the future. This is another reason you should grow your account.

In conclusion, irrespective of the size of your account it is important to take engagement as a serious business. It might not seem important now given the size and structure of the blockchain but that might change as the blockchain grows.

THIS WEEK'S TASK:

Focus on quality, not quantity. Try to have meaningful exchanges both on your posts and that of other content creators. Add your unique perspective to the conversation. An average of ten comments per day should do the trick
