So twitter recently launched their story-like feature called fleet. This enables users share videos, pictures, and posts for a duration of 24hours. It isn't anything new or groundbreaking as most critics have pointed out but it does create a unique opportunity for Twitter lovers to engage differently. Also, fleet has the potential of attracting new users who are receptive to visual content.

According to Buffer Twitter ranks as the 12th most popular social platform with 335 million monthly attractive users. Although, I think it impacts is more significant when compared to other social platforms. Tiktok, Tumblr and Instagram which are video/picture-based platforms rank higher in their charts. It can be inferred that most people enjoy consuming visuals than written content as they are a passive means of absolving information. Yes, it is possible to share pictures and videos on Twitter, but not in the fun way as other platforms like Instagram. This, I believe, is twitter attempt at changing that.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION

I started using this new feature three days ago. I haven't experienced any lags. It works fine. However, it isn't as refined as Instagram stories, or snapchat snaps. For some reason, Twitter failed to add flitters. There isn't really much you can do with your pictures and videos in terms of editing.

I will give fleet a 5/10.

PROS: FLEETING ADS

For an online businesses with large followings on twitter, this new feature offers a new way to engage new and potential customers in a more fun and visual way. I have been experimenting with the new features, showcasing some of my girlfriend's crochet work and it has been doing numbers i am not used to seeing on my content. I have a sizable following on Twitter (about 6,000 followers) but have little engagement (this might be due to the platform's algorithm), however, i have been getting views in hundreds. So this is a feature i will be exploring a lot in the future. Good for engagement, good for business.

Twitter is said to be a haven for crypto enthusiasts. What better and fun way to showcase your favourite project to the world? I will be using fleet to share short clips talking about my favourite crypto projects and creating a buzz around.

These are just some of the ways I hope to leverage this new feature.

So have you tried the new fleet feature on Twitter? What is your impression? Share with me in the comment section.
