"Money in My Childhood" Challenge - Reto "El Dinero en mi Infancia" [ESP/ENG] - by @pablo1601

Good morning dear community! I know that the time to participate in the contest has expired, but even though there are no rewards at stake I want to make my publication because I have things to tell you that make reference to what I have experienced and maybe someone might find it interesting. Thanks to @leofinance and @rutablockchain for this series of challenges that are very interesting and we can all learn from other users by reading their posts.

Muy buenos días querida comunidad! Se que el tiempo de participación en el concurso ha caducado, pero aunque no haya recompensas en juego quiero hacer mi publicación porque tengo cosas para contarles que hacen referencia a lo que he vivido y quizá a alguien puede resultarle interesante. Gracias a @leofinance y @rutablockchain por esta serie de retos que son muy interesantes y todos podemos aprender de otros usuarios al leer sus posteos.

I knew money from a very young age, at first collecting old coins and bills, worthless as a means of exchange. A few years later, my parents bought a piggy bank for my brother and me where every day they would give us some coins or bills so that we could build up our savings until we could collect the money to buy whatever we wanted.

Conocí el dinero desde muy pequeño, en un principio coleccionando monedas y billetes antiguos, sin valor como medio de cambio. A los pocos años mis padres nos compraron una alcancía a mi hermano y a mí donde todos los días nos daban alguna moneda o billete para que vayamos formando nuestros ahorros hasta juntar la plata para comprarnos lo que quisiéramos.

I still remember that as a child I saved money like a magpie and did not want to spend it for anything in the world; so much so that many times I have lost all my savings due to the currency changes we have suffered in the country.

Aún recuerdo que de pequeño ahorraba dinero como una urraca y no quería gastarlo por nada del mundo; tal era así que muchas veces he perdido todos mis ahorros ante los cambios de moneda que hemos sufrido en el país.

As time went by, back in 1992, I became more involved with the economy at my parents' house, since unfortunately the situation experienced from 1990 onwards, led to serious economic problems. So much so that around the year 2002 we were on the verge of losing our family home, but a few weeks before the auction we were able to make a payment agreement in order to cancel the debt.

Con el paso del tiempo, allá por el año 1992 me involucré un poco más con la economía en casa de mis padres, ya que lamentablemente la situación vivida a partir del año 1990, nos llevó a pasar serios inconvenientes económicos. Tal es así que cerca del año 2002 estuvimos a punto de perder nuestra vivienda familiar, pero unas semanas previas al remate logramos hacer un convenio de pago para poder cancelar la deuda.

Years before we reached that point I remember that with my cousin we would go shopping in her truck looking for offers that would allow us to make money by buying a variety of products. They were hard years when I grew up all at once and where I could really see how a father feels when the money he brings home is not enough even to cover basic needs.

Años antes de llegar a ese punto recuerdo que con mi prima salíamos de compras en su camioneta en busca de ofertas que nos permitiesen hacer rendir el dinero comprando variedad de productos. Fueron años duros en los que crecí de golpe y donde realmente pude darme cuenta lo que siente un padre cuando el dinero que trae a la casa no alcanza ni siquiera para poder cubrir las necesidades básicas.

That's why I could tell you that the lack of money has left traces in me, that they still last to this day, and that I work on them in order to overcome them and to understand that it doesn't have to be the same as what happened with my parents. It's so complicated for me to use credit cards to buy anything and it's very hard for me to get into debt, even if it's to buy goods that deserve it.

Por ello podría decirles que la falta de dinero ha dejado huellas en mí, que aún perduran hasta el día de hoy, y sobre las cuales trabajo para poder superarlas y poder entender que no tiene que suceder lo mismo que pasó con mis padres. Es tan así, que me es muy complicado hacer uso de tarjetas de crédito para comprar cualquier cosa y me cuesta mucho contraer deudas, aunque sea para comprar bienes que así lo amerite.

You can imagine that my parents have not been able to give me money, but that I helped them pay their debts to secure the house. Beyond that they always instilled in us that no matter how much money is missing in a family we must always stay together and help each other. This teaching is very important because there are things that are more important than money and we cannot even solve them with all the money in the world. I have memories of eating white noodles, with nothing for several months the last 15 days of the month, but we still stayed together.

Podrán imaginarse que mis padres no han podido darme dinero, sino que yo los ayude a pagar sus deudas para asegurar la casa. Más allá de esto ellos siempre nos inculcaron que por más que en una familia falte el dinero siempre debemos permanecer unidos y ayudándonos unos a otros. Esa enseñanza es de muy importante ya que hay cosas que son más importantes que el dinero y que incluso no podemos solucionarlas con todo el dinero del mundo. Tengo recuerdos de haber comido fideos blancos, sin nada durante varios meses los últimos 15 días del mes, pero aún así nos mantuvimos unidos.

También recuerdo que al momento de comprarnos ropa nosotros siempre elegíamos las que más nos gustaban y obviamente eran las más caras y nos explicaban que no podían hacer ese gasto y nos compraban algo que estuviese al alcance de sus posibilidades.

When I started working with my first paycheck I helped my parents pay off their household debts, and to buy a bicycle so I could go to college and work and a printer to use in my studies as well.

Cuando comencé a trabajar con mis primeros sueldos ayude a mis padres a pagar las deudas de la casa, y de comprarme una bicicleta para poder ir a la universidad e ir al trabajo y una impresora también para poder utilizar en mis estudios.

All this led me to understand that although money is an important part of our daily lives because it brings us peace of mind and makes our lives much easier, it is not the most important thing in life. Money is a means that makes certain things easier for us, but does not make us happy.

Todo ello me llevo a entender que si bien el dinero es una parte importante en el día a día porque nos aporta tranquilidad y nos facilita mucho nuestras vidas, no es lo más importante que hay en esta vida. El dinero es un medio que nos facilita ciertas cosas, pero que no logran hacer la felicidad.
