Money can't buy a team

Except for some outrageous exceptions like Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, money doesn't buy you a football team, like money does not buy happiness. I will give you an example, I am a Cercle Brugge fan, that was bought by AS Monaco about 5 years ago. Monaco used our club to give their second and third tier players a chance to show their qualities at Cercle. The first season it all went well, as we become champions of the Belgian Second Division. But since then, it has shown that their so called quality injection of expensive players didn't do our club any good. Especially when too much of them came. They didn't form a team, they only played to force a transfer or to be picked by the AS Monaco first team. Result, Cercle had to fight against relegation every season since then, despite having a budget of over 20 million EUR, which is a lot in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. Most clubs have to do it with a lot less. Now, finally AS Monaco have loosened their policy with us, and our home grown players are introduced back into the team. Together with some quality players loaned from Monaco, and a good coach they now form a true team. With 5 home grown players in the starting eleven, they beat our rivals Club Brugge in the derby today, Club Brugge with a budget of almost 100 million EUR, was beaten by a team that has a budget 5 times smaller than them. Again an example of how money doesn't buy a team, and certainly not trophies.

Miangue has just scored the 1-0 against Club Brugge

Off course money is important, but team spirit, a good businessplan, and good vision for the future are way more important in sports, and especially football.

Sincerely,
