Browsing around the crowdfunding platform Seedrs this evening I came across a new crypto social startup that caught my eye.

UHive is "a cryptocurrency-powered social network built for users, not corporate bottom lines."

It was first set up a couple of years ago, claims to have around 200,000 users already and is now seeking to raise another £500,000 through crowdfunding for further growth and development.

UHive

The platform uses the UHIVE utility token based on the ERC-20 Ethereum blockchain.

The token can be bought or earnt through posting content.

It claims to have already generated £350,000 via direct token sales...

UHive is a centralised platform developed and managed by a company based in the UK.

It appears to be very mass market focused in a similar style to APPICS.

However UHive is interestingly attempting to keep all options open through its Two Worlds - Civilized World (Real Identity) and Free World (Anonymous).

The 'Civilized World' covers sports, music, fashion, food etc - standard social mass appeal topics.

The 'Free World' is anonymous and talks about freedom and free speech...

The Free World is a place that the user can express themselves freely. It’s a place that the user canchoose to be whoever they want to be, and the opportunity to share thoughts and ideas yet remain anonymous to other users.

The White Paper gives more details...

UHive offers what it terms 'Spaces' - these can be personal or business.

UHive also includes Virtual Reality.

Monetisation Strategy

UHive has four elements to support its economy...

  • Token Sales
  • Paywall Content
  • Selling Digital Assets
  • Advertising Revenue

It would be interesting to see numbers. The fact that it is crowdfunding suggests the economic sustainability still has some way to go.

UHive is definitely well packaged and well marketed - although I had never heard of it !

It has apparently been in development for five years and has 70 employees.

The economy of UHive is currently mainly based on internal token sales and advertising revenue.

They are now looking to make the token tradable and get it listed on exchanges.

UHive claims big user numbers but it socials suggest otherwise with only 890 subscribers on YouTube, and 11K followers on Twitter.

The strapline on the website says...

Uhive Social Universe No Censorship, Controlled by Users, Evaluated by Users

Anyone tried it or know anything more about UHive?

Postscript 1 @khaleelkazi - has there been any consideration of taking LeoFinance down the crowdfunding route to help fund future development? It would be an easy way to bring in new money and new users.

(For reference crowdfunding sites like Crowdcube and Seedrs are currently experiencing massive influxes of funders and practically every project gets overfunded at present.)

Postscript 2
I just found this UHive video from two years ago majoring on Freedom of Speech. They seem to be giving less prominence to this now in the marketing and crowdfunding pitch...
