This Day In Crypto History @ 24 February - Satoshi's Bitcoin Logo & Gizmodo Questions Bitcoin
Another day of red and green.
Some stocks are on the up again, some are still on a downer, whilst others don't know where they are heading.
Bitcoin hangs on to the $50K flag, and the alts are bouncing along behind.
$50K would have been a pipedream for the Bitcointalk community when 11 years ago today Satoshi rolled up his sleeves to pitch in with a first Bitcoin logo.
24 February 2010 - Satoshi Nakamoto designs first Bitcoin logo
In early February 2010 Bitcointalk forum member 'NewLibertyStandard' wrote...
I propose that we adopt the Thai baht currency symbol, ฿, as the official bitcoin currency symbol and BTC as the official bitcoin three letter currency code.
This led to considerable discussion on the forum with some of the community worrying that the use of the baht symbol might cause confusion.
A couple of weeks later Satoshi Nakamoto posted the first attempt at a logo for Bitcoin on the forum. It was a simple gold coin containing the letters BC rendered at a low 530x530 resolution.
Other members of the community took up the design challenge, and by November user 'bitboy' had come up with the iconic Bitcoin logo, with the ₿ rendered in its now trademark white and orange, complete with the 14% clockwise rotation that is still used today.
24 February 2017 - Gizmodo questions why Bitcoin still persists
In yet another 'Bitcoin is Dead' story tech website Gizmodo posted an article questioning how Bitcoin persists "despite mounting evidence that it’s not the best use of your money"...
Financial experts have largely cast aside the web-based currency as a legitimate investment, calling it too volatile, too risky, and in some cases, a scam.
