The great summer harvest

Here we are, time flies and suddenly a season is gone, we are at the end of summer and it's time to harvest the last crops to free the fields for the next season.

Let's start with some considerations that summarise what I've learnt and noticed this season:

  • It's very important to organise your crops beforehand, because it's easy to reach the end of the season with fields that are free but without enough days to plant anything else. For example this time I harvested turnips and wheat in one of my fields 2 days before season end, and I had to leave them free because the fastest of my crops was wheat, which takes 4 days to mature.
Of course this is a concern only if you're looking to achieve the maximum efficiency, but it's something to consider nevertheless.

  • Legendary crops are not the best from a yield point of view, they're too expensive for what they give, but they're very handy because often they have a very short mature time, so they can fix the issue I talked about in the previous point, helping reaching the maximum field efficiency. Unfortunately they took a very long time to repay you of the investment (someone better than me at making spreadsheets outlined this very well in this post, thank you @engilhramn!), but it's also true that if you're careful and ready to spend some time on the market you can snatch good deals and buy seeds for below market value and sell them after the season without losing much money.

  • The market in dCrops is very illiquid, probably because there are still very few players, but I hope this will change soon with the beta packs presale and all the new innovations that the dCrops team has announced (you can read about their roadmap here in this post). For now however one has to be very careful when buying seeds from the market, because the price can vary even by 200% and this could wastly affect your roi.
For this reason my advice is to check the market frequently and keep track of the price of seeds and start to understand when it's convenient to buy and when it's better to avoid certain crops, while also being ready to buy off season seeds if the price is good enough.

Back to the fields, here we can see all my crops ready to be harvested, and a couple of fields void without any active colture, that's because as I said earlier sometimes you don't have enough time to let a colture grow and mature.

Harvesting the 4 watermelons will also let me complete almost all my quests, besides the one which requires to sell a fall vegetable that I can't have since it's my first season. Not a big deal, I could have rerolled for 10 crops but for now I didn't feel it was necessary.

Here is the summary of all my summer crops:

I won't sell them for this season though because I still want to better understand the reward system and I want to see what will happen with the upcoming changes related to the beta packs release and possibly some tweaks to the rewards system. Luckily in this game your stored crops won't rot and we can keep them indefinitely, to hopefully reach a higher position in the shares ranking next season.

I also want to better understand how holding rewards work, but this will be covered in a subsequent post, when I will hopefully be less newbie about the matter and I will discover how to make my crops yield the best returns!

Everything is now ready for the next fall season, but most importantly for the beta packs presale starting July the 25th, I'm so hyped for all the new unique cards that we could find in packs and for the awesome promo card that you have a chance to get just by buying packs! There's a 0,5% chance to have it airdropped for every pack you buy, but also a guaranteed card for every 200 packs bought IN ADDITION to the base chance.
That's pretty awesome!

Let's have a closer look at the new card:

This is the first ever known multi-seasonal seed, it can be planted both in summer and fall, but most importantly being a legendary card it also has the special ability that makes it keep producing for the whole season, and you know what do this two combined qualities mean?

  1. If you sow it at the beginning of summer it keeps producing until *the end of fall

  2. If you sow it in summer the card becomes usable again in fall (after 15 days) and you can sow it again!*
So with one seed you can fill one plot in summer and two in fall!

No doubt this card is very strong and that's why it's given out only during the presale period to a very limited number of people, it has great value both for the gamplay and for your collection.

It also shows us a preview of one of the new mechanics that will make the game more complex and fun, maybe we'll see many others in the new unique cards released with the beta packs.

This is definitely one of the best time to hop on and start playing dCrops, to take advantage of the discount on packs and the bonus on packs purchase, but also to not miss the chance to get a unique card for a game that in my view has a bright future ahead!
