What’s next for Germany? / Was kommt als nächstes für Deutschland? [ENG/DE]

I am fascinated by the outcome of the recent election in Germany. There are many possibilities for the negotiations to arrange the next government.

The prior ruling CDU/CSU coalition was defeated. It was not by a large majority but was nonetheless a rout.

What will happen next?

I am guessing that it will result in a coalition government made up of three factions. Probably a strange combination. Center-left at the core, SPD having gotten the most support from voters. The Greens took third place, so that faction would garner a seat at the table. The third partner might be FDB, of the center-right.

The FDB might prefer to partner with the CDU/CSU. The problem with that is with such an alliance, they would still be short of a majority.

How could the conservative CDU/CSU alliance possibly form a government? I doubt that they would agree to negotiate with the xenophobic AfD. And certainly not with The Left.

Might the CDU/CSU be willing to be junior partners to the SPD for a grand centrist unity government? I would guess that the SPD would only accept that as a last resort.

I would be interested in what the Germans here have to say. Yes, I studied German in high school, but that was a long time ago. I will therefore rely on Google Translate.

Mich fasziniert das Ergebnis der jüngsten Wahlen in Deutschland. Es gibt viele Möglichkeiten für die Verhandlungen, um die nächste Regierung zu arrangieren.

Die zuvor regierende CDU/CSU-Koalition wurde besiegt. Es war keine große Mehrheit, aber dennoch eine Niederlage.

Was wird als nächstes passieren?

Die FDB könnte es vorziehen, mit der CDU/CSU zusammenzuarbeiten. Das Problem dabei ist, dass sie bei einer solchen Allianz immer noch keine Mehrheit haben

Wie könnte das konservative Bündnis CDU/CSU eine Regierung bilden? Ich bezweifle, dass sie zu Verhandlungen mit der fremdenfeindlichen AfD bereit wären. Und schon gar nicht bei The Left.

Könnte die CDU/CSU bereit sein, Juniorpartner der SPD für eine große zentristische Einheitsregierung zu sein? Ich würde vermuten, dass die SPD das nur als letztes Mittel akzeptieren würde.

Mich würde interessieren, was die Deutschen hier zu sagen haben. Ja, ich habe im Gymnasium Deutsch gelernt, aber das ist lange her. Ich werde mich daher auf Google Translate verlassen.
