The founder of the famous silk road website got arrested in 2013 for Silk Road. I’m sure most people here will be confused what Silk Road is since we are quite new to the crypto world. Silk Road was a black market website where illegal products like narcotic drugs and weapons could be sold and bought with bitcoin. Yeah, now you know where the stigma of bitcoin being used by drug traffickers came from, but aside Silk Road, drug traffickers can still use bitcoin to traffickers drugs.

The black market website was created in 2011 but was shut down in 2013. The shutdown caused bitcoin price to crash at that time. I can imagine the rate of transactions being transacted on the site coupled with the fact that bitcoin was extremely anonymously used. 2 years later the founder got convicted, and was sentenced to two life sentences with an additional 40 years. That’s a lot of time to be spent in prison. It looks like he had given up on the outside world.

Prison changes people and that’s a fact, if he has been incarcerated since 2013 then it’s definitely a fact that he is not the same again. I can remember spending just three weeks mom camp for my NYSC in Nigeria, although I can’t compare the experience to that of prison but I didn’t leave the outside gate, that experience actually changed my life a little bit.

Due to Ross Ulbricht time spent in prison, it has given him enough time to reflect on his life, what he has done and what he is going to do. Silk Road is definitely part of the cryptocurrency history, you can’t talk about one of the trials of bitcoin without naming Silk Road 2013. So in a way Silk Road has contributed to Bitcoin’s history, though in a bad way as it was used for illegal activities. Ross Ulbricht had enough time in prison to try out his drawing skills, because in prison the only thing you have is time. He was able to tell stories through his drawings, but you know in prison is not possible for you to get all the information about the outside world in prison. So it’s normal for him to have no knowledge of NFTs before now, even people that are not in prison don’t know NFTs.

Ross Ulbricht found out about NFTs and decided to convert his arts drawn in prison for NFTs and they are expected to be sold as rare arts. They will be minted on Ethereum and listed as super rare NFTs.

Proceeds gotten from these NFTs will be used to help the kids and fellow prisoners, that’s Ross Ulbricht wish for what he wants to do with the money.
