Web 3.0 they said, decentralisation they said was the goal, but they are tracking IP addresses and ETH address as updated in their privacy policy. This means that meta mask will be collecting your data and will be sharing it through the data collecting company called infura, this was updated by the company behind metamask which is known as consensys, this goes way out of the Web 3.0 and decentralisation goal. Crypto was created to give freedom and this includes the freedom to choose who you want to share your IP address and location with, as a matter of fact this gives you freedom to choose if you would like to share your information or not.

Metamask is supposed to be a decentralised wallet to help promote Web 3.0 but it seems like they have forgotten. As long as you are using the default Metamask RPC your data and information will be collected by infura, but if you run your own node, it won’t be collected. Not a lot of people will like this because metamask is take your information such as your country of birth, nationality and more.

So what does that mean, you have to avoid it, this isn’t Web 3.0 or decentralisation, this is just slowly grabbing users back to centralisation through the name of decentralisation. You can avoid this by switching to a different wallet and using your keys on that wallet, there are other wallets that are decentralised at least for now, or you can change the RPC provider from infura to alchemy. The RPC provider on metamask default is infura, that is the data collecting company that will be collecting your data and IP address.

How Do You Change RPC Provider To Alchemy

First of all you need to get an Alchemy account to get the RPC link for your metamask RPC provide in order to change it from infura to alchemy. If you notice, from your metamask main net if you check the network RPC you will see that it is supported by infura. Look at the image below:

So the goal here is to change that RPC to Alchemy, to do that, register an account on alchemy to help you get a custom alchemy RPC for any main net you want to use. After you have done that, go to create App on Alchemy.

While creating the app, select Ethereum as the chain and mainnet as the network.

After doing that, go to view keys and select the Http as the new RPC http, copy and go to your metamask RPC wallet and click on Add Network then click Add Network Manually

Network Name

Ethereum Mainnet Alchemy

New RPC URL

The RPC http link you copied from your alchemy account

Chain ID

Put 1

Symbol

ETH

Block Explorer URL

https://etherscan.io

Congratulations you have been able to change your RPC from infra to alchemy, now your IP address can’t be tracked or collected.
