A sanction was placed on tornado cash by the United States which got a lot of people buzzing and for a second, I totally get it and understand why some people feel its not fair. Well first of all, tornado cash is a decentralized wallet that helps in crypto mixing but built on the Ethereum blockchain. So what is crypto mixing? This is the process where lots of crypto transactions are generated through complicated mix just to make it less transparent. What does this mean? The blockchain is a transparent technology, this means that transactions are visible, making it possible for you to see people’s activities. This has its adavtanges and disadvantages, security wise it can be used for both good and evil.

It has been used for good through tracking criminal activities and catching criminals, but it can be used for evil when criminals use it to track people and know what they are worth. So people like to use crypto mixers just to scramble the transactions so as to make it more difficult to track. Lots of celebrities can get tracked and people can find what they do with their money through the blockchain. That was how people knew that Justin Bieber bought a bored ape NFT even before he announced it. So yeah, some people will like to use it. Even the Ethereum Developer, Vitalik Buterin agreed to have used Tornado Cash to donate to Ukranians as a means to protect the recipient not himself.

Tornado cash can be used for a lot of reason, sure it can be used for money laundering, but that’s how life is, nobody is banning guns because they can be used to kill people, nobody bans cars because they cause accidents on the road, because we are focused on the positive use of cars more than the negative cause or use. A suspected tornado developer was arrested which seemed kind of unfair because, tornado cash wasn’t a secret and its technology was not built solely on its use to be illegal, it was used to mask privacy when needed. This is the reason I am glad satoshi nakamuto became anonymous, the government want to crack down on crypto so bad, they can do anything to achieve that.

Are the governments trying to say it’s a crime to want some privacy? Is it bad to want to want to send something anonymously, they should focus on working with tornado cash to tackle money laundery or focus on trying to utilise the platform to track illegal use of crypto.
