In the spirit of trying to secure my crypto wallet and make sure it doesn’t get hacked, because, my metamask wallet is now one of my most valued wallets, I found out that accepting RPC networks and approving them can make your wallet vulnerable to hacks and attacks. This scared me because I thought exposing your private keys is the only breach of your wallet security, turns out there is more. Just the other day I was reading a thread of a hacked crypto bro and he gave reasons to why his metamask account got compromised. He downloaded a file from twitter from another so called crypto bro and that file gained access to his computer and to his metamask wallet. Which is really shocking and surprising because I have been downloading files thinking that can not get my wallet compromised.
source After reading the twitter thread I deleted every files I downloaded on my PC and added that to the list of things to be more vigilant on. Today I read another thread to how accepting a scam or malicious RPC Network on your metamask can leas to hack also. I didn’t bother verifying how true it was, I went to my metamask and deleted all RPC networks except the popular ones like ethereum, BNB, Polygon Arbitrum ETC. Better safe than sorry right? This got me so worked up, I started thinking, why is our crypto wallet so vulnerable, any little or slight mistake could lead to a great loss.

Well, we all agreed that crypto wallets like metamaks and other DEX wallets are decentralised, meaning that, we are responsible for our own security right? Freedom comes with responsibilities and this is part of it. Being completely responsible and accountable for the wallet’s security. This means that you have to be extra careful and dedicate your time to making sure your wallet is as careful as ever. One of the ways is avoid downloading files randomly on your computer. Download from verified sources to prevent the risk of downloading corrupted files that will be used to hack your computer.
