  1. Tiffany & Co. says Hong Kong protests are hurting the business - With 10 stores in the region, Hong Kong is the fourth largest market for Tiffany & Co., and the company estimates that they lost 6 full days of sales due to store closures. The company also said the underlying health of the business is strong, and they plan to seek inroads into new demographics by launching a men's jewelry line in October.

  2. Amazon reportedly kept a 'burn book' of all the mean things politicians said about it during the HQ2 fight with New York City - Amazon's HQ2 plan promised to bring 25,000 jobs to New York City, but after a number of politicians came out in opposition to it, Amazon scuttled the agreement. Now, the Wall Street Journal (paywall) is reporting that Amazon has a Microsoft Word file with a record of the politicians who opposed the move.

  3. PNC stops lending to private prison industry - On August 13, as part of its "commitment to environmental and social responsibility, Pittsburgh-based PNC Bank announced that they have stop lending to the private prison industry. This represents a turnaround from 2018, when the company participated in a group that established a $1 billion credit line for Nashville, Tennessee-based CoreCivic Inc.

  4. Whirlpool Just Recalled More Than 26,000 Glass Cooktops for Turning On By Themselves - 26,000 appliances are being recalled after the company received 133 reports of glass cooktops turning themselves on. The ranges were sold between March of 2017 and August, 2019. Consumers who bought a glass cooktop in the last couple years can enter their model number and serial number here to see if theirs is included in the recall. The numbers can be found on the underside of the appliances.

  5. STEEM A Recipe For Courage - In this Steem essay, @lordless.exile suggests that it is hard for people to be courageous in modern times because there is not a perception of urgency, and there is a great desire to fit in with the group. In order to cultivate courage, the essay suggests cultivating trust - or faith in a higher power, and humility - recognizing yourself as one among many.
