Opinion: GE’s Culp wagers serious money that Markopolos’ fraud accusation is wrong - In the face of fraud accusations by whistleblower, Harry Markopolos, GE's Chief Executive Officer, is holding about $10 million in GE stock along with $14 million in performance stock units. CEO Larry Kulp increased his holdings by $2 million on the day of Markopolos' press blitz, when the stock plunged by 25%. Markopolos is known for calling out the Bernie Madoff fraud, but some are questioning his motives with regards to GE, because he is working with an undisclosed hedge fund that apparently has a major short position in the stock. GE is denying the allegations. Personally, I hope that the allegations are untrue, but I rode Enron all the way to zero, so this time, I'll take a wait and see approach before drawing any conclusions.

Matthew McConaughey Is Now a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin - This fall, Matthew McConaughey will join the Department of Radio-Television-Film in the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a 1993 graduate of the school, and has been lecturing there as a visiting professor since 2015. He will be co-teaching the school's the Script to Screen class.

How I escaped North Korea -- and found freedom - In this TED talk, Yeonmi Park tells her story of escape from North Korea. I don't know if this is still true, but a couple years ago her book, In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl's Journey to Freedom, was required reading for the freshman class in our local high school.

Philadelphia Museum of Art hikes general admission prices by 25% - Adult prices are increasing from $20 to $25, and senior prices are rising from $18 to $23. The last time the museum raised its prices was 2012. Admission will be drop from $14 to free for people under $18 years of age, and from $2 to free for people with ACCESS and EBT cards. The change comes in the midst of the museum's $525 million fundraiser, the largest fundraiser for the arts in Philadelphia history.

STEEM How to think about your upvotes after HF21 - a non-technical guide - I guess the new rewards curve is confusing for people who weren't here during the N² days, but fortunately @rycharde is here to explain it. In summary, the vote-value (in rshares) is set at the time of voting, but the rewards value (in STEEM) is not set until the time of payout, and the size of rewards depends on the total of all votes on a post - not just a single voter, so we need to start adjusting our expectations away from the linear payout where the vote and rewards were proportional. Under the new curve, rewards derived from your vote grow at a faster rate than the vote itself, up to posts of about 20 Steem. After that, it's more like the curve that we're all used to. So, if you vote on a post that has 18 STEEM voted on it, your vote will give a larger reward to the author than it would as the only voter. Curation rewards also depend on voting order, so larger rewards to the author doesn't necessarily translate to larger curation rewards for the voter. (A 10% beneficiary setting has been applied to this post for @rycharde)
