So whoop de do Splinterlands is Partnering with Waka Flocka and bringing out 1000 Maxed Level Promo Death Summoners created in his image, and this is a summoner which poisons....

Like probably ever other 40 something white European on Hive I'd never heard of Waka Flocka before this announcement, but I shit you not, having done my cursory 30 minutes of flicking around the Internet, I can confirm that Waka Flocka is actually a real hip hop artist,

From what I can glean from Wikipedia, YouTube and various other sites he seems to have taken a fairly standard rap-trajectory.....

  1. Been brought up in relative poverty
  2. Produced a few albums, his heyday seems to have been around a decade ago.
  3. Most of his well-known songs seem to focus on the standard hip hop themes of cars, gold, money in general, several attractive black women per man, and various wealth adorned youths dancing in clubs (doing that standard slight squat and wave one hand in the air thing) and/ or older, muscled black men with gang-tattoos hanging around in inner-city streets looking mean.
  4. After a few years of this he seems to hsve had a bit of a religious turn, possibly following the suicide of his brother in 2013, did a lot of humanitarian work with suicide prevention charities (fair play) and received an honorary doctorate for this in 2021.
  5. He still tours I think, but seems mostly active on social media and likes his NFTs, although apparently the art is more important than the value....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skhxizRYxps Pretty standard Hip Hop formula.

Utopian Meanderings on this Partnership....

On the surface this makes TOTAL SENSE - approach a rapper with the suggestion of minting a limited number of promo NFTs in his image... NICE.

NB - Flocka has been into NFTs for a while, he's actually been tweeting for the last few months inviting people to shill him projects....

So Flocka gets a NICE summoner, and it is a nice summoner - 3 mana and poison, that's going to be the absolute shit in low mana and no abilities rule sets, and he gets bragging rights - he's now going to have the only NFT on Splinterlands, at least for a while, and quite possibly THE ONLY NFT named after him that anyone can actually DO anything with!

And I guess hip-hop - status, battles, bling, it does kind of work with Splinterlands, it's not the most unnatural fit i could think of that's for sure.

At the very least this is going to attract some of Flocka's fans to the game, but if we're being utopian, it might bait other artists into offering more advertising for BETTER summoners or monsters of themselves.

And imagine a year or so down the line once we can create our own cards, this could segway much more naturally into a wider range of partnerships... batches of cards, micro leagues and tournaments....

And this is where the ART maybe becomes more important than the stats...

Not everyone can have the most shit-kicking card in terms of stats, so maybe this is where ART becomes more crucial - because it's quite possible to have lots of very similar cards but with different SKINS and to make these VERY RARE.

Hmm, there is quite the realm of possibilities here....

HOWEVER it still requires a buy-in to this particular 'meta'...

Having said this, the growth of this sort of artist-adoption still requires artists to buy-in to the Splinterlands brand, to settle for a partnership rather than developing their own brand of NFTs, even if they would just be static NFTs.

And in the future, who knows where NFTs, and various metaverse projects are going... in five years time the concept of having even a legendary summoner crafted are you might look a bit dated.

I guess it all depends how far Splinterlands can keep up with the NFT METAVERSE competition, but RIGHT NOW, and for 2022, I think the future looks very bright!

Oh, quick postscript, given that his brother committed suicide in 2013 and this triggered (I believe) his work for suicide-prevention strategies, a death summoner with poison seems like an odd choice, I would have thought something a bit more uplifting would be more fitting with that side of his image, but there you go, I guess this is just fantasy......
