One of the best things that's happened to me on Hive in the last few months is getting involved with the @oneup-cartel....

There's a lot to the Cartel, but I guess the TLDR definition is that it's a metaguild which invests in blockchain games and NFT projects and curates numerous tribes on Hive (gaming tribes and more, such as LEO).

For a fuller definition and summary of recent updates and what the Cartel does I suggest you read this post by @flauwy, the lead architect of the project and general all-round legend.

NB - it's important to point out early on here I think that the Cartel is investing for the long term, not short term gains, (although those haven't been too shabby of late either!).

Investment in Blockchain Games, Content Curation, Multi-Tribe Curation and More

As I see it there are three main aspects to the Cartel....

  1. Investing in various blockchain games, both on and off Hive.
  2. Content curation - written and video content on Hive.
  3. Multi-Tribe curation - via the !1up command.

Investing in Games

The Cartel holds thousands of dollars of assets (already) in several games - both on Hive and elsewhere.

Splinterlands is (maybe unsurprisingly) the largest holding, but the Cartel has investments in most Hive games and externally is into CryptoRaiders (via yours truly) and more!

Operators have the freedom to manage the Cartel's in game assets as they see fit, and for now there's a general policy of re-investing everything in the games themselves.

I guess we'll see what the future will bring in terms of profit-taking, if ever we get there!

Content Creation

Each of the gaming operators produces one post a week outlining progress in their area, and profits of the post are split between the operator/ author and the Cartel bank.

Some of the initial posts produced to introduce the games being invested in by the Cartel are epic BTW and well worth and upvote in their own right, someone's actually being paid to write them. As just one example check out this recent post on Hashkings.

There are also streaming and video initiatives alongside regular written content.

All of this should go a long way to bringing eyes to Hive and Hive games.

Meta-Curation

About a dozen of us have access to use the !1UP command which will give posts a vote from the cartel's tribe accounts, dependent on what tags have been used.

The vote values are pretty impressive for some of these Cartel Tribe accounts - the spt and 1up accounts are by far the largest curation accounts - and we're talking several dollars per vote, not cents in most cases.

NB the 1UP bot may be an awesome work of automation, but curation in terms of putting the command on a post is manual - us curators check the Tribes, share links in Discord and decide what counts as quality content.

These curation accounts are funded by delegations, delegators receive a share of the curation returns.

It's a great use case for Hive....

Given that Hive is about blogging, tribes and games, the cartel bridges all of those very nicely, and takes us beyond Hive too, it's just a great initiative!

How to get involved with the Cartel...

If you just want to invest, then all you have to do is buy CARTEL token - ATM you can do this by sending HBD or Hive to @oneup-cartel - it's $10 a token until Jan 17th when it goes up to $11.

All funds from the sale of Cartel tokens will be used to buy game assets (mainly Splinterlands) and Tribe tokens, then 45% of revenue will be used to buy more game assets/ tokens, and 45% shared between Cartel holders, 10% goes to the Treasury to pay for future developments and buy ONEUP - details in this post.

There are also a few windows (I think) still open for some gaming operators, so check the posts and have a word with @flauwy if you're interested in this aspect, or becoming a curator, but the situation here is always flexible, so I'm not 100% sure what opportunties are available right now, you'd need to ask in the 1Up Discord!
