Ask Leo - Manual Curation or Follow Curation Trails?

Do you remember that post where I mentioned how I came back to life last December and made a statement by making 60 comments? No worries, you are not the only one.

While explaining my Hive hiatus (there are more than one), I also noted how I followed Hive curation trails to remain active on the platform. And, also to not stop earning rewards from my powered up stake albeit small.

I went back to Hive data again to see how I fare while I was away. To my surprise, I was not doing bad at all. The figure below showcases that my account was doing much better while I let the curation trail do the job. Look at the numbers.

From March to September 2022, when I allowed the curation trail to lead me on who to vote for, I managed to earn much more compared to the rest of the months in the same year. I earned 11 Hive in September while following curation trails compared to 2.8 Hive in October through my manual curation.

The data clearly suggests that following a curation trail is much more profitable to manual curation if you are a regular user and do not know the ins and outs of a curation calculator. One needs to understand the best time to upvote and so many other factors.

But, is earning Hive the only reason behind curation? NO

I don’t think so. For me, curation is much more than earning Hive tokens. It is to give compliments to good articles and publishers. It is to encourage them to do better and validate their work on the platform. I remember days when I was yearning to have a 1 dollar Hive post. I have many more 1 dollar posts now but I know the feeling of not having those -all my @actifit posts 🙂

Do you follow a curation trail and rely on curators to select blog posts for you to upvote?

You rather do it yourself and read and complement authors on your own?

I am also cognizant of the fact that there are members who do not have time to curate and rather let curators curate posts for them delegating them a certain percentage of their power.
