Unfortunately in an editing error I inadvertently deleted the content in this post.

But I will make a brief summary of the three key steps to move from Savings to Investment in this attempt to capture the content that was there before the editing error.

1-. Know your investor profile.

This way you will be able to know better which instruments favor you more and go according to the profile you have as an investor, this is related to the proposed objectives we have, time to reach these objectives and risk we want to run to achieve it.

One way to know this profile is by taking a test, which I share with you in the following link:

Investor test

  • 25% uso personal cotidiano (incluido ocio o entretenimiento)

2-. Having a positive net capital.

That is to say, that we have more income than expenses is very important. Because otherwise the debts and expenses that we have will generate more uneasiness than the investments that we are making.

It is important that our monthly income covers basically the Fixed expenses: Rent, food, transportation and basic utility bills. It is possible to include a percentage of savings in this line of fixed expenses to "obligate* us to save monthly a part of our salary.

Then, our remaining capital could be allocated as follows: We divide into 4 equal parts (25% each) and allocate that leftover money as follows.

  • 25% Emergency Fund Account (which I talked about in the previous post: Emergency Fund

  • 25% Basic Savings (with immediate liquidity)

  • 25% Savings Account for investment purposes

  • 25% Personal day-to-day personal use (including leisure or entertainment)

**3-. Do not place the money you need in the short term in high-risk instruments.

One of the most important characteristics that an investor must develop is patience**. If we need money in the short term, the worst thing we can do is to place that capital in a high-risk instrument, because the volatility of such instrument may cause us to temporarily lose part of the capital and by getting impatient and having to withdraw it soon, we will assume an unnecessary loss.

The opposite is true for the patient, who despite the fact that the instrument presents a temporary loss of capital due to its fluctuation, if he waits long enough (as long as the instrument has a positive trend with respect to our objective), he will be able to achieve the fruits of the wait.

The information previously placed in this edition was much more complete, but as it was deleted by mistake I could not recover it. This has been an attempt to salvage (using my memory), what was in it.

I hope it will still be of benefit if you are willing to move from saving to investing.
