John McAfee was wrong — the price of bitcoin never reached $1 million

The bold forecast of entrepreneur John McAfee did not come true-despite the rapid growth, the price of bitcoin never reached the $1 million mark.

At the time of writing, the price of the first cryptocurrency is trading around $29,500, which is significantly below the target level.

In 2017, McAfee promised to eat his own penis if the price of bitcoin does not reach $500 thousand by the end of 2020. He later raised the bid to $1 million. Since then, the entrepreneur has actively spoken in support of his words.

In January last year, he suddenly called bitcoin "a real shield coin" and hinted that he would not eat his penis.

In May 2020, McAfee publicly retracted his predictions.

"I am the one who predicted that Bitcoin, the most crooked crypto technology, would grow to $1 million. Are you one of those who didn't see the absurd humor in it? I posted this on the same day I predicted that sex with whales would become the most popular water sport instead of surfing. Wake up!"
