Not sure I would call it "something happens for a reason" or "karma".
Certainly "cause and effect" holds true.
In business we have strategic plans to bring about a favourable outcome.
In nutrition we know that certain foods are likely to cause something bad.
Cancer as such is the very much the same. Maybe a genetic disposition. Maybe something else.
