Of course, having a powerful deck is very important in Splinterlands. I am currently fighting in the Gold I League and I know that my deck is not powerful enough for the Gold I League. My deck is quite adequate for the Silver League so I can easily win many battles there, but for me there is less excitement, frankly, excitement is as important to me as winning the battles that's why I prefer to advance to the Gold League. In short, it is very difficult for me to fight in the Gold league, but it is much more exciting. It is possible to overcome the difficulties of the Gold League with powerful strategies, so I attach great importance to strategy. Frankly, I think strategy is as important as power in battles.

In order to win the battles, I need to strategize better than the opponent, so I study the last 5 battles of the opponent well and try to determine a better strategy according to my deck, taking into account the ruleset of the battle. I would like to state that if I can determine a good strategy, I can win many battles, even the most difficult ones. That's why I take care to be able to form a team with a good strategy in battles. I will share with you one of my very challenging and very interesting battles, I hope you like it.

Battle Ruleset
Going the Distance
Odd Ones Out
Fog of War
Mana Cap 20

  • Going the Distance rule means only Monsters with Ranged attack may be used in battles.

  • Odd Ones Out rule means only Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles.

  • Fog of War rule means Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.

Before Starting the Battle

Before starting the battle, when I reviewed the last 5 battles of the opposing player, I saw that the opposing player had quite powerful cards. In particular, the Level 3 YODIN ZAKU caught my attention because I knew that according to the ruleset of the battle, I would be fighting against the Level 3 YODIN ZAKU in this battle. YODIN ZAKU is a really very powerful Summoner that gives +1 Ranged Attack to all friendly Ranged Attack Monsters, and the Blast Ability and +1 health to all friendly monsters. And according to the battle ruleset, only Ranged Attack Monsters would be used in this battle, which was really a huge advantage for the opposing player. Indeed, this battle was going to be very difficult for me, so I needed a much better strategy to win this battle. I would also like to point out that the price of Level 3 YODIN ZAKU is more expensive than my entire deck.

  • Blast Ability : Does additional damage to Monsters adjacent to the target Monster.

My Strategy

First of all, I needed to reduce the attack power of the opposing team in this battle, and I knew that speed would be crucial in this battle. That's why I was going to choose QUIX THE DEVIOUS as the Summoner, but I knew it wouldn't be enough so I decided that I should add a Monster with the Headwinds Ability to the team as well. With this, I would have reduced the Ranged Attack of the opposing team's Ranged Attack Monsters by twice, which meant that the Ranged Attack of all Ranged Attack Monsters on the opposing team would be reduced by -2. Frankly, even that might not be enough for such a powerful team, so I added 2 Monsters with the Martyr Ability to my team, and when this Monster dies, the adjacent Monsters would increase +1 to all stats, which I thought would give my team an advantage. Honestly, I believed that with this strategy, I would have a better chance of winning this rather difficult battle, and I decided to build my team with this strategy and adjusted the line-up of the monsters as follows.

Line Up

Summoner : QUIX THE DEVIOUS

I chose Quix the Devious as the Summoner in this battle, as I thought reducing the Ranged Attack of all Ranged Attack Monsters on the opposing team by -1 and reducing the speed of all monsters on the opposing team would give my team a significant advantage. Quix the Devious reduces the speed of all enemy monsters by -1 and reduces the ranged attack of all enemy ranged attack monsters by -1.

Position 1: VENARI MARKSRAT

I put Venari Marksrat with the Martyr Ability in the first position on my team. This was a purely tactical move to increase LAVA LAUNCHER's speed and attack power after Venari Marksrat was destroyed. The only reason I added Venari Marksrat to my team in this battle was to take advantage of its ability, I had no other purpose.

  • Martyr Ability : When this Monster dies, adjacent Monsters get +1 to all stats.

Position 2: LAVA LAUNCHER

Lava Launcher is a very powerful monster with the Close Range Ability from level 1 onwards. Also, Lava Launcher has 4 Ranged Attack, 3 speed, 6 armor and 6 health at level 3. Lava Launcher is one of those monsters that can attack from the first position thanks to its Close Range Ability and is hard to destroy thanks to its armor and health, so I added it to my team and put it in the second position. I relied much on its powerful attacks in this battle and took extra precautions to make its faster and it attack targets stronger.

-Close Range Ability : Monsters with the Close Range ability can perform ranged attacks from the first position.

Position 3: GEM METEOR

Gem Meteor is Monster with the Scattershot Ability, 1 Range Attack, 5 Speed and 5 Health at level 2. Since Gem Meteor has 5 speed and 5 health, I put it in third position.

  • Scattershot Ability : Ranged and Magic attacks hit a random enemy target.

Position 4: FIRECALLER

Firecaller is a monster that can powerfully attack targets and has the Martyr Ability. Also Firecaller has 3 Range Attacks, 1 speed and 4 health at level 4. The most important reason I added him to my team in this battle was because he has Martyr Ability, and I put him in fourth position. When Firecaller died, adjacent Monsters would get +1 to all stats.

  • Martyr Ability : When this Monster dies, adjacent Monsters get +1 to all stats.

Position 5: PYREWATCH DEVIL

Pyrewatch Devil has the Life Leech Ability from level 1 and has 1 Range Attack, 3 speed and 3 health at level 2. The most important reason I added Pyrewatch Devil to my team in this battle was because he has the Life Leech Ability because I thought his health increase after each his attack would give my team an advantage so I put him in fifth position.

  • Life Leech Ability : Monster's health increases each time it damages an enemy Monster's health in proportion to the damage dealt.

Position 6: ASH MIRAGE

Ash Mirage is a powerful monster that has the Headwinds Ability from level 1 and can attack targets with Ranged Attacks. In this battle, I knew that reducing the ranged attack of all the ranged attack monsters on the opposing team by -1 once again would give my team a huge advantage in the battle. That's why I added Ash Mirage to my team without hesitation, as it has the Headwinds Ability in this battle. And I put it in the last position on my team so that it could survive until the end of the battle. It was crucial to my strategy that the Ash Mirage not be destroyed in this war, otherwise my entire strategy would have been ruined. Additionally, Ash Mirage has 2 Ranged Attacks, 5 speed, and 7 health at level 3.

  • Headwinds Ability : Reduces the Ranged attack of all enemy Monsters.

To be honest, the opponent's team was very powerful as I expected and the opponent player's strategy was pretty good too. It also seemed obvious that the opposing team was much stronger than my team, which was a huge advantage for the opposing team. But with my strategy, I blocked the big advantage that the opposing team would have in battle, and I balanced the battle a little bit. However, considering that all monsters on the opposing team had Blast Ability, the opposing team was still very powerful.

Although BLOOD MAKER with Scattershot Ability seemed to break my strategy in the first round, everything went as I wanted in the first round. While a monster from the opposing team was destroyed, a monster from my team was also destroyed. In the second round, while everything was going as I wanted, LAVA LAUNCHER, who has Stun Ability at level 5 on the opposing team, was struggling to break my strategy. The fact that LAVA LAUNCHER, who was in the first position in my team, was stunned greatly prevented me from winning the battle easily, but the increase in LAVA LAUNCHER's stats due to Monsters with the Martyr Ability was disrupting the opponent's strategy. Before starting the battle, LAVA LAUNCHER had 3 speed and 4 Ranged Attack, while in the third round its Ranged Attack increased to 6 and its speed increased to 5, giving my team a huge advantage in battle. LAVA LAUNCHER avoided one attack in the third round and 2 attacks in the fourth round, which gave my team a huge advantage in the battle. It also managed to avoid another enemy attack in the fifth round. My strategy worked really well in this battle and helped my team win a pretty tough battle.

Frankly, my team managed to win a battle that I thought would be quite difficult against a very powerful team, although it was difficult thanks to my strategy. The battle lasted 7 rounds, at the end of the battle, all the monsters on the opposing team were destroyed, while 3 monsters were still alive in my team. This shows that my strategy is working well. In battles, strategizing by considering the battle ruleset and the power of the opposing team works well in most battles. It is possible to beat many teams, even very powerful teams, with a powerful strategy, the above battle is an example of this. I recommend you to watch this wonderful and quite challenging battle from the video or the battle link.

My opinion

Having a powerful deck is of course very important, but in battles, strategy is as important as power, so I attach great importance to strategy in battles. Before each battle, I try to determine the best strategy based on the opponent and the ruleset of the battle, and when I can do that, my team can win many battles, even the toughest ones. I'm currently fighting in the Gold I League and the battles are really hard for me, but I can say that they are incredibly exciting and rewarding at the same time. Honestly I know my deck isn't good enough for the Gold I League I can rent cards for it but I want to have lasting power so I'm more interested in buying cards and buying and opening Chaos Legion and Riftwatchers packs. That's why, as I save money, I increase the strength of my deck day by day by buying Chaos Legion, Riftwatchers packs and cards I need from the market. In addition, I see that the prices of all cards that have been discontinued have increased, and I think that the price of many cards that have been discontinued, although not all cards, may increase further in the future. That's why I prioritize buying the cards I need. We'll wait and see.

What are your thoughts on the battle? I would be glad if you write your thoughts in the comments.
